The loss further damaged the Redhawks' hopes of making the six-team Ohio Valley Conference tournament. Southeast (2-8-1 overall, 1-4-2 OVC), the two-time defending OVC tournament champions, came into the contest in eighth place in the OVC standings.

Tennessee Tech (4-11-1, 3-2-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by Ashley Smith and Rebecca Ross. Eagles goalkeeper Kaitlyn Thacker made 10 saves.
