The Redhawks and Missouri State will square off in a 2 p.m. contest Wednesday at Capaha Field.

After having Tuesday's scheduled start of an 11-game homestand postponed by rain, the Southeast Missouri State baseball team will be in action Wednesday.

The Redhawks and Missouri State will square off in a 2 p.m. contest at Capaha Field. The squads were supposed to play Tuesday in the opener of a two-game series, which has been cut in half.

MSU (4-6) has won three straight and four of five after losing its first five games. Southeast (4-7) has suffered five consecutive defeats.

The defending Missouri Valley Conference regular-season champion Bears have captured nine of the past 10 meetings against Southeast. They swept last year's two-game series in Springfield, Mo.

Softball home opener

The Southeast softball team will open its home schedule today with a 3:30 p.m. game against Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Southeast will also host Illinois State at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in a contest that was not originally scheduled.

The Redhawks (4-7) have lost five straight.

Tennis plays at home

The Southeast tennis team will see its first home action of the season, and also open its OVC schedule, when Murray State visits Thursday for an 11 a.m. match.

Southeast (1-6) has another OVC contest Friday at Tennessee State.

Cross country honor

The Southeast men's cross country team has repeated as a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I All-Academic squad.

The Redhawks' cumulative grade point average of 3.48 during the 2009 fall semester is tied with Cincinnati for the ninth highest in the nation.

Southeast is one of three Ohio Valley Conference schools honored, joining Austin Peay (3.40 GPA) and Eastern Kentucky (3.04).

A record 135 Division I men's programs received USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. A squad must have compiled a team score at an NCAA regional this past season and have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be considered.
