Coming off one of its best-played series of the season, the Southeast Missouri State baseball team hopes to continue that trend.

The Redhawks (7-7) hit the road for a two-game series with the University of Memphis (9-6), with contests 4 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Southeast broke a four-game losing streak by winning two of three during a home series against South Dakota State last weekend. The Redhawks did not commit an error in two of the contests.

"I really saw a lot of positive signs in that series," Southeast coach Mark Hogan said.

Memphis struggled last year, going 13-42 overall and 5-25 in Conference USA.

"I expect them to have a good ballclub," Hogan said.

Following the Memphis series, the Redhawks will return home for a three-game set against Missouri State.

The Redhawks (7-7) and Governors (7-9-2) will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and 1 p.m. single contest Sunday.

Southeast is coming off Sunday's doubleheader sweep of Northern Iowa, in which coach Lana Richmond posted her 700th and 701st career victories.

The Redhawks sport a .284 team batting average, but a shaky 4.74 earned-run average.

Sophomore Megan McDonald, a Central High School graduate and the reigning OVC freshman of the year, leads the Redhawks offensively with a .368 average.

Sophomore Michelle Summers is hitting .340 with four home runs, tying her for the team homer lead with freshman Jenn Monaghan, who is batting .311. Monaghan and senior Stephanie Huffman lead the way in RBIs with 11 apiece.

Gymnasts hit road

The Southeast women's gymnastics squad will have its third consecutive meet against at least one nationally ranked opponent tonight when the Redhawks visit No. 12 Missouri.

Last Friday, the Redhawks finished fourth in the Arizona Quad that featured No. 15 Arizona and No. 19 Denver. On March 5, the Redhawks were second in their own four-team Outback Invitational, as Missouri placed first.

Following tonight's meet, set for 7 p.m., Southeast will end the regular season by hosting the Midwest Independent Conference Championships March 25 at Houck Field House.
