OXFORD, Miss. -- Mississippi successfully cooled off a hot Southeast Missouri baseball squad, sweeping the Indians in a two-game series with a 7-4 victory Saturday.
Mississippi (10-3), which stopped an Indian eight-game win streak Friday night with a 5-1 victory, jumped out to a 5-0 lead on the Indians and were never seriously threatened.
Rebel left-fielder Kris Cox and designated hitter Glen Norris combined to do most of the damage as each collected three RBIs and had five of their team's nine hits. Cox had three hits, including a triple, while Morris had a double among his two safeties.
Starter Nathan Lyons (3-1), one of four Rebel pitchers, was credited with the win, allowing four hits in seven innings.
Indian starter Lanson Debrock (2-2) suffered the loss, failing to emerge from a four-run second-inning.
Mississippi scored a single run in the first inning and upped the lead to 5-0 in the second. Debrock allowed seven hits in 1 2-3 innings before giving way to Brandon Smith, who allowed just two hits over the next 5 2-3 innings.
Southeast (8-4) trimmed the lead to 5-1 in the fifth, but Mississippi upped the lead to 7-1 with a pair of runs in the sixth.
The Indians scored its final three runs with two out in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to 7-4. Southeast had four of its nine hits in the eighth off Mississippi's Joseph Liberto and Matthew Miller.
Brett Young came on to pitch the ninth for the Rebels and was credited with his first save of the year.
Phil Warren had a pair of doubles for the Indians while Jeremy Johnson and Darin Kinsolving each had two hits.
