SCOTT CITY -- Howie Stubenrauch 24, Caruthersville High 6.

While sequels of hit movies often flop, the sequel to Stubenrauch's performance last week earned a unanimous two thumbs up.

Behind three rushing touchdowns and an interception for a score by Stubenrauch, Scott City beat Caruthersville 31-6 in Friday night's homecoming game.

Scott City improved to 5-1, dropping Caruthersville to 1-5.

Stubenrauch matched last week's four touchdown outing against Chaffee. The past two weeks -- and their eight touchdowns -- haven't been too bad, have they Howie?

"Yeah, they've been pretty good," said Stubenrauch. "Our line has been doing very well, and that's what makes it all happen. We figured that we could run the ball."

Stubenrauch carried the ball 20 times for 162 yards.

On Scott City's second possession, a 47-yard pass from Lance Amick to Dale Burger set up an eight-yard scoring run for Stubenrauch.

On Caruthersville's ensuing possession, Stubenrauch burst to the line of scrimmage and intercepted Brandon Irons' pass and scooted 25 yards to make the score 12-0 with 3:07 left in the first quarter.

Caruthersville's only score came in the second quarter. Amick fumbled and Nathan Morgan collected the ball and ran 38 yards.

Stubenrauch answered with 43 seconds left in the half. The 5-foot-10, 171-pound senior scampered 38 yards down the left sideline to give the Rams an 18-6 lead at the half.

Quiet in the third quarter, Stubenrauch was back at it as soon as the fourth began. He capped a seven-play, 70-yard drive with a 20-yard scoring run five seconds into the quarter.

Nursing what was apparently an injury to his groin suffered early in the second half, Stubenrauch sat out the closing minutes of the game. With Stubenrauch out, Lance Amick hooked up with Brandon Amick for a 13-yard touchdown with 5:14 left.

Lance Amick completed five of 12 attempts for 101 yards and threw an interception.

These have been "two big games" for Stubenrauch, said Scott City coach Terry Flannigan. "We need to keep him injury-free. And our line keeps coming on."

Although the Rams held Caruthersville to just 15 yards in the first half, the win wasn't a pretty one as the Rams were hit with 16 penalties and a player was ejected.

"I always worry about homecoming. I though we were locked in, but we weren't all the time," Flannigan said. "We're happy for the `W,' but we have a lot of work to do in a lot of areas."
