Scott City cruised into the championship game of the Oran softball tournament, routing Charleston and New Madrid County Central in pool play Friday.

The Rams (13-3) hammered Charleston 17-4 in five innings before disposing of New Madrid 10-1 to win Pool B.

Scott City will play for the tournament title at 1 p.m. today against the winner of the other three-team pool.

The Rams had 17 hits, including three doubles from Lauren Schaefer. Kim Klipfel and Lindsey Amick also had three hits, and Emily Essner and Becky Holder added two.

Libby Burger won her fourth game on the mound, allowing just two hits in five innings.

Essner gave up just one hit and no earned runs for the Rams against New Madrid. She struck out 12 batters and walked one.

Jenni Heisserer had three hits for Scott City, and Holder and Chelsi Bradley added two apiece.

In the other pool, Oran overcame an 8-5 deficit to earn a 10-8 win over East Prairie. Callie Kielhofner pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the win. Kielhofner allowed just two hits, struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Alyson Seyer led Oran's 14-hit attack with two doubles and a triple. Jodi Urhahn added three hits for the Eagles (10-1), and Cassie Graviett, Ellen Sikes and Wendy Eftink had two hits apiece.

Oran plays Saxony Lutheran at 9 a.m. today for a chance to move on to the championship game against Scott City.

In other Pool A action, East Prairie beat Saxony Lutheran 5-4.

BASEBALL Scott County tournament

Oran eased by Malden 11-1 in five innings at home to earn a spot in the semifinal round of the tournament.

The Eagles (12-3) will meet Dexter, a 4-1 winner over Senath-Hornersville, today at 11 a.m. at Oran.

Kody Campbell led Oran's offense with two doubles and a triple. Caleb Seyer, Austin Dumey, Joey Williams and Chris Asmus each added two hits.

On the other side of the bracket, in games played at Kelly, Advance topped Dexter's junior varsity 3-2 and Kelly beat Cooter 6-3. Kelly will face Advance in a semifinal at 9 a.m. today at Oran.

Chaffee Red Devils Classic

Ben Courtois pitched a four-hit complete game shutout for Saxony Lutheran in a 4-0 quarterfinal win over host Chaffee.

The Crusaders (4-4) will play today at 9:30 a.m. in the semifinals against Perryville, a 6-5 winner against Egyptian, Ill. The two semifinal games and the championship, scheduled for 6:45 p.m. today, will be played at Chaffee.

Kory Mueller provided the offensive spark for Saxony, slamming a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Crusaders a four-run lead. Peter Winningham added two hits.

Chaffee (5-8) will take on Egyptian at 9:30 a.m. at Scott City.

Scott City defeated Bell City 5-0 in a first-round game at Scott City.

The Rams (6-5) will meet Shawnee, Ill., which topped New Madrid County Central 7-4, in an 11:45 a.m. semifinal game today.

Matt Hester delivered a game-winning infield single in the bottom of the ninth with bases loaded and one out as Central edged visiting Festus.

Festus (10-6) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, but Central (13-4) countered with a run in the fifth.

Hester finished with three hits, and Blake Slattery added two.

Tyler Propst earned his second win on the mound, allowing one hit and no runs in the final 3 1/3 innings. Propst relieved starting pitcher Justin Myers, who gave up five hits and one earned run.

The defeat was the fourth straight for the Panthers (4-6).

Derek Hanners struck out 10 batters and allowed just three earned runs in a complete-game losing effort for Meadow Heights.

Panthers catcher Bryce Wallis was 3-for-3 with two doubles before being injured in a collision at home plate with a Bismarck baserunner. John Long and Terry Wagner each added three hits. Tyler Wagner had two hits, including a home run, and Zack Hotop also chipped in two hits.
