Scott City's volleyball team earned a spot in the Class 2 District 2 finals with a sweep of Bloomfield on Monday in the semifinals at Scott City.
The Rams will face No. 2 Twin Rivers tonight at 7 p.m. in the championship.
In the first semifinal, it was the No. 1 seed Scott City romping past Bloomfield 25-10, 25-10. The Rams were led by Kacie Ritter with 21 assists, and Brooke Simpson had 10 kills and two blocks.
Also for Scotty City, Heather Huckstep and Jenni Heisserer each had five kills. "I thought we played fairly well, we had a pretty decent offense, and I hope we can pick up the tempo for tomorrow nights game," Scott City coach Carl Ritter Jr. said. "Hopefully, we can let our momentum carry us."
In the other semifinal, Twin Rivers handled Puxico in two sets, 25-18, 25-18.
Fifth seeded Bloomfield upset fourth seeded Chaffee to start the night with a 25-19, 25-13 victory. Third-seeded Puxico defeated No. 6 Charleston 25-16, 25-19 in the other quarterfinal.
Sixth-seeded Central pulled off the upset with a 25-21, 25-19 win over No. 3 Poplar Bluff at the Class 4 District 1 tournament in Farmington.
The Tigers will face No. 2 Sikeston at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the semifinals. Jackson, seeded fifth, will face No. 1 Farmington in the other semifinal. The finals are 8:15 tonight.
Central (19-14-2) had 42 digs as a team, led by Taylor Kirn with 12. Kristin Shirrell added 12 assists, and Wendi Zickfield had eight kills.
Jackson handled Hillsboro in three sets 25-18, 19-25, 25-22. The Indians were led by Chelsea Olson with six kills, 16 assists, and 19 digs. Also for Jackson, Katelyn James added nine kills and Chelsea Dale added seven, while Ashely Seomo chipped in 12 digs.
Notre Dame handled New Madrid County Central 25-8, 25-10 in a first-round Class 3 District 1 matchup at Dexter.
Meridith Medlin had six kills and five assists for the No. 3 Bulldogs, while Ashley Nenniger added five kills.
Aimee Ha added five assists and Emily Jo Matthews had nine straight service points in the first set, four of which were aces.
Notre Dame will play No. 2 Perryville tonight in the semifinals. The finals are at 7:30 tonight.
Fourth-seeded Saxony Lutheran narrowly avoided the upset by beating fifth-seeded Zalma 20-25, 25-19, 26-24 in the Class 1 District 3 tournament at Saxony Lutheran.
Nicole Petzoldt had five kills, six blocks, and 21 digs for the Crusaders, while Kara Versemann had seven kills, three blocks, and 28 digs.
Also for Saxony, Brooke Kasten had 13 assists , Tiffany Haertling had 10 digs, and Kari Hadler had 3 kills and 21 digs.
Saxony will square off against No. 1 Leopold in one semifinal tonight.
Third seeded Meadow Heights dominated 6th seeded Marquand 25-12, 25-4. The Panthers will play No. 2 Oak Ridge in the other semifinal.
The finals are 8 tonight.
Top-seeded Bell City and No. 2 Bernie will meet in the finals of the Class 1 District 2 tournament tonight at Advance.
Bell City swept No. 4 Richland in the semifinals to move on.
The championship is 7 p.m. tonight.
Jackson beat Farmington on the road.
Spencer McCormack and Derek Richardson each had a goal while Matt Mueller and Chris Shelton added assists for the Indians (13-6-4). Tyler Holman was in goal for the shutout.
