HAYTI -- Scott City High's football team continued to maul the opposition as the Rams routed host Hayti 38-0 Friday night.
The 6-1 Rams have won six straight games, outscoring the opposition 228-19 during that time. Scott City improved to 4-1 in SEMO South Conference play. Hayti is 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the league.
"We were real happy with everything that happened," said Scott City coach Roy Williams. "Before the game our coaches told me we never play well when we come down here."
Scott City led 24-0 at halftime, getting a 30-yard field goal from Lucas Ward; a 16-yard touchdown pass from Scott Johnston to Bill Posey; an 11-yard touchdown run from Matt Underwood; and an 8-yard TD toss from Johnston to Posey.
In the second half, Underwood scored on a 16-yard run and David Enderle returned an interception 30 yards for a TD.
Underwood finished with 129 yards rushing while Johnston had 65 and Enderle added 51.
The Rams had 301 yards of offense while Hayti had a respectable total of 217 yards as quarterback Matt Morgan passed for 139 yards.
Scott City will begin defense of its Class 2A, District 2 title next Friday night when the Rams travel to Grandview.
Malden 19, Chaffee 12
CHAFFEE -- Chaffee's fast improving football program put together another solid effort that resulted in a near upset of a strong Malden squad.
The Green Wave scored a touchdown with five minutes left to break a 12-12 tie and improve to 5-2 overall, 3-0 in SEMO South Conference play. The Red Devils fell to 3-4 overall, 2-2 in the league.
"It was an excellent game," said Chaffee coach Allan Horrell. "I told our kids I couldn't be more proud of them. They played their hearts out tonight."
Malden led 12-0 lead early in the second quarter but Chaffee stormed back. Tommy Stidham's 60-yard touchdown run in the second period made it 12-6 at halftime, then Travis Hanback hit Jeremy Lynn with a 17-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to make it 12-12.
Chaffee opens Class 1A, District 1 play next Friday night by hosting defending district champion St. Vincent, the state's second-ranked Class 1A team.
