Rain, darkness suspend B.C.Open

ENDICOTT, N.Y. -- Paul Gow, at home again on a course far from his native Australia, shot a 6-under 66 Friday to sit atop a B.C. Open leaderboard clogged with relative unknowns.

Gow had a two-round total of 11-under 139 on the En-Joie Golf Club course, where lightning and rain around midday Friday forced a weather delay of nearly 4 hours, 15 minutes.

When play resumed, Shaun Micheel went out in a blazing 5-under 32 for the front nine and was 11-under through 15 holes when darkness stopped play for the day.

Nearly half the field was still on the course Friday and they were to return this morning to complete the second round and, following the cut, play the third round.

Gow was a shot ahead of Paul Claxton, who shot a 69 Friday, and two ahead of Joe Ogilvie (70) and Bo Van Pelt (65). Ogilvie had finished his round Friday before the storms arrived and Van Pelt and Claxton had to return after the delay to finish their last holes.

LPGA: Kelly Robbins -- winless in her last 82 tour events -- had two eagles in an 8-under-par 64 and she shared the lead with Beth Bader after Friday's rain-delayed opening round of the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic.

Bader hasn't finished higher than a tie for 30th in her two years as a pro.

Robbins holed a bunker shot on the par-5 5th, then hit driver and 3-wood to 4 feet for another eagle at the par-5 8th.

Bader had 10 birdies and two bogeys for the best score of her career.

The 64s were the lowest competitive rounds ever shot at Squaw Creek Country Club.

Mi Hyun Kim of South Korea was joined at 65 by Danielle Ammaccapane, while rookies Natalie Gulbis and Jung Yeon Lee each shot a 67.

SENIORS: Ted Goin got his game going at the first hole Friday and finished strongly to take the first-round lead in the SBC Senior Open.

One shot back Friday on the 6,970-yard links-style course were three-time champion Hale Irwin, Roy Vucinich, Bob Eastwood and Tom Wargo. Seven other players were two strokes behind.
