The Plaza Tire Capahas suffered a rare doubleheader loss Saturday as the host St. Louis Printers posted 2-0 and 5-3 victories.

"It's the first doubleheader loss for us in six years," Capahas manager Jess Bolen said. "But the Printers put a good team on the field and we just couldn't get our offense going."

The Capahas, who fell to 11-4, had just eight hits in the two seven-inning contests, including only two infield singles in the opener. No player had more than one hit in either game.

Jason Chavez suffered the first-game loss, allowing two unearned runs and three hits in 4 1/3 innings. Josh Parham finished up with 1 2/3 hitless innings.

Cape Girardeau native and former Capahas pitcher Billy Huston got the win with five innings of one-hit ball.

In the nightcap, the Capahas led 3-0 after two innings before the Printers rallied and went ahead for good with a three-run sixth.

Dusty Renfrow allowed two runs and two hits in 2/3 of an inning for the loss. Starter Derek Herbig gave up seven hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings.

The Capahas host Springfield, Ill., today in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

Riverdogs split two games

The Cape Girardeau Riverdogs split two games in Evansville, Ind., beating the Evansville Outlaws 8-4 and losing to the Southern Indiana Cardinals 5-4.

Steve Fowler pitched all nine innings for the win over the Outlaws. Ryan Dailey had three hits and Trevor York added two.

York had three hits against the Cardinals, while Chris Bradshaw had two.

Friday night, the Riverdogs (5-10) lost to the Outlaws 9-8 in Evansville. Billy Palmer and Tim Arbeiter both had three hits, while Patrick Slattery and Andrew DePeder each homered.

The Riverdogs remain in Evansville today to face the Outlaws again.

Jackson Legion prevails

The Jackson American Legion finished up the Paducah (Ky.) Tournament by beating Manchester 5-0. Jackson (11-12) went 1-2 in the tournament.

Tyler Beussink pitched seven innings of three-hit ball, with seven strikeouts and one walk. Brandon Gendron had two hits and two RBIs.

Scott County Legion falls

Scott County's American Legion suffered a 16-6, eight-inning loss at Dunklin County, falling to 6-9 overall and 0-3 in District 14 play.

Shane Menz and Chad Friend both had two of Scott County's eight hits, while Menz homered. Dunklin County had 20 hits.

Cape Junior Legion sweeps

Cape Girardeau's Junior American Legion swept a doubleheader at De Soto, 11-10 and 12-6, to improve its record to 19-6.

Justin Myers was the winning pitcher in the opener, while Tyler Propst earned a save.

Cape had 12 hits, led by Abe Dirnberger with three, along with two RBIs. Brooks Osburn had two hits and three RBIs, while Propst and Garrett Stephens both added two hits.

Mark Himmelberg pitched six innings of one-hit ball in relief to win the nightcap.

Cape had 13 hits, led by Dirnberger and Brett Heischmidt with three apiece. Heischmidt also had three RBIs. Himmelberg added two hits and three RBIs.

Other events

* The Cape Girardeau Senior Babe Ruth (9-5, 8-2 district) recently split two games with Charleston, losing 6-2 and winning 16-6 in six innings.

Tyler Bruce was the winning pitcher in the second game, and Jacob Wengert had four hits.
