Price, Clark team up to win CVS Charity Classic

BARRINGTON, R.I. -- Nick Price teamed with Tim Clark to win the CVS Charity Classic best-ball tournament Tuesday, with Price holing a 12-foot birdie putt on the second hole of a playoff against Brad Faxon and Mike Weir.

Both teams closed with a 9-under 62s to finish at 19-under 123 on the Rhode Island Country Club course. Weir forced the playoff with a 5-foot birdie putt on the final hole of regulation in the two-day tournament.

"This was a very big putt for me today for my self-confidence," said the 49-year-old Price, who won the last of his 18 PGA Tour victories in 2002. "If I make a few more like that I'll start feeling better again. ... I haven't played that well since I last won a tourney, so it was nice to be part of a team and to have some support."

Price and Clark split the $250,000 first-place check.

Price also won a playoff in the 2001 event when he made a 3-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole while playing with Mark Calcavecchia against Faxon and Gary Player.

The team of PGA Tour rookie Bubba Watson and second-your pro J.B. Holmes trailed Price-Clark and Faxon-Weir by one stroke as they approached the 17th hole. Watson and Holmes each parred the last two holes for a 63 and a third-place tie with Tom Lehman and Tim Herron (61) at 18 under.

Barrington native Brett Quigley made the first hole-in-one since the initial tournament in 1999, using a 9-iron on the 145-yard 17th. Lee Janzen and Scott McCarron each aced that hole in 1999. Quigley's ball bounced 3 feet from the cup before rolling in for his first ace in pro competition.
