NAYLOR — The Naylor Eagles defeated the visiting Clearwater Tigers 7-4 on Thursday on the strength of a six-inning, 12-strikeout performance from starting pitcher Chase Dillinger.
Dillinger gave up three runs on four hits with only one walk against the dozen strikeouts.
Naylor’s Colby Sullivan and Nathan Lunsford each contributed two RBIs on the offensive side of the ball.
The Eagles improved to 2-3 on the season, while the Tigers’ record fell to 2-4.
Brendan Lashley took the loss for Clearwater, giving up seven runs on 10 hits over six innings. Jackson Ottwell drove in two runs on two hits for the Tigers.
__Kennett 8, East Carter 1__
The Kennett Indians baseball team went on the road and beat the East Carter Redbirds 8-1 on Thursday.
Kennett improved its record to 4-6, while East Carter fell to 6-2 on the season.
No other information about this game was available at press time.
__SOFTBALL East Carter 15, Ellington 0__
The East Carter Lady Redbirds made quick work of their home game Thursday against the Ellington Lady Whippets, whipping them 15-0 in a three-inning shutout.
Six Lady Redbirds drove in runs, including two each from catcher Karla Ochoa and winning pitcher Calleigh Miller. Left fielder Janica Holloway-Jessop went two for two and scored three runs.
Miller’s shutout was a one-hitter with four strikeouts and only one walk.
The Lady Redbirds raised their season record to 3-1, while the Lady Whippets fell to 1-2.
The losing pitcher for Ellington was Kali Freeman, who gave up 15 runs but only two of them earned, as her defense committed three errors in the game.
__Kennett 11, Neelyville 4__
The Neelyville Lady Tigers lost their spring softball season opener 11-4 on the road to the Kennett Lady Indians on Thursday.
The Lady Indians had four players who each drove in two runs in support of winning pitcher Handley McAtee, who pitched a complete game.
McAtee struck out 13 Neelyville batters while giving up four runs on eight hits with four walks.
Lady Tigers pitcher September Preslar took the loss, giving up 11 runs on 8 hits. However, only two runs were earned, as the Neelyville defense committed nine errors in defeat.
Neelyville’s bright spot on offense was center fielder Jade Crosswhite, who went 3-for-3 and scored two runs.
Kennett improved its perfect record to 8-0, while Neelyville begins its spring season 0-1.
__NMCC 22, Naylor 6__
The Naylor Lady Eagles lost 22-6 to the New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles in a Thursday softball game that started quite differently than how it ended.
Naylor gave up two runs to the visitors in the top of the first inning, then stormed back to score six to take a 6-2 lead after the first.
Unfortunately for the home team, it would be the last runs they scored, as NMCC scored six, six, five, and three runs for a five-inning win.
Naylor’s Peyton Hopkins took the loss, giving up 18 runs on 18 hits with two strikeouts and eight walks over four innings. Alexis Holcomb gave up four more runs in relief.
NMCC’s Laura Johnson went five for five with five runs scored, while teammate Aubrey Aycock went three for four with six RBIs and three runs scored.
NMCC improved to 4-3, while Naylor dropped to 2-1.
