Georgetown sophomore Otto Porter Jr. was named the Big East player of the week for the second consecutive week Monday after he played a monumental role in the Hoyas extending their winning streak to nine games.

The former Scott County Central star scored a career-high 33 points in a 57-46 road win over then-No. 8 Syracuse on Saturday. The win moved Georgetown (21-4, 11-3) into first place in the Big East and elevated the Hoyas to No. 7 in the latest national AP poll. The victory broke a 38-game winning streak for the Orangemen in the Carrier Dome, which had a record crowd of 35,012 on hand -- the largest ever to see a college basketball on a school campus.

Porter averaged 22 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2 assists in the Hoyas' 2-0 week, which included a win over DePaul.

Porter is averaging a team-leading 15.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game on the season.

FIFA has given worldwide bans to 58 soccer players and officials found guilty in Chinese match-fixing cases.

FIFA says it expelled 33 people from the game for life and 25 others will serve five-year bans for involvement in "domestic match-fixing and bribery."

All those banned were previously sanctioned by the Chinese soccer association.

Life bans were imposed on referee Lu Jun, who officiated two 2002 World Cup matches, and four former Chinese national team players: Shen Si, Qi Hong, Jiang Jin and Li Ming.

FIFA says the sanctions follow investigations and trials conducted by law enforcement and soccer authorities from 2010 to 2012.

FIFA said the fixed matches were played "in the 1990s and early 2000s."

A person familiar with the contract said that Tom Brady has received a three-year extension from the New England Patriots worth about $27 million.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the extension has not been announced.

The 35-year-old two-time league MVP was signed through 2014, and has said he wants to play five more years. By redoing his contract Monday, Brady also has cleared nearly $15 million from New England's salary cap.

The three-time Super Bowl champion will make far less in those three seasons than the going rate for star quarterbacks. Brady currently has a four-year, $72 million deal with $48 million guaranteed.

Sports Illustrated first reported the extension.

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Zach Redmond is in good spirits at a Raleigh, N.C., hospital as he recovers from surgery to repair a skate cut to his right thigh.

The 24-year-old rookie suffered a gash to his right femoral artery and vein during a practice Thursday. His family released a statement Monday thanking the Jets' training staff and players for their quick action, which the Redmonds say saved his life.

Redmond was accidentally cut by a teammate's skate during a drill. He was taken to the hospital and underwent a three-hour surgery.

He is out indefinitely.
