PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — The Portageville softball team lost 8-2 to Risco at Portageville High School on Thursday, March 30.

“The game started against us,” said Portageville coach Kelsey Snider. “One of my girls didn’t touch first base which caused us to have to take away a run. That started the tempo for us and we just didn’t fight back.As soon as we started to get down on the scoreboard we started making errors we don’t normally make.”

The Lady Bulldogs (3-5) managed five hits, a double and single by Jessica Priggel and singles by Jayla Weddington, Jayla Coger and Aubrey Greenwell.

The Lady Tigers (5-3) had 10 hits and were led by Jaelynn Presley, Avery Presley and Carlie Stephens with two hits each.

“We were outhit,” Snider said. “They have some great players, but if we were able to get our bats going and didn’t have to fight against a couple of calls the game would have been completely different. We need to learn how to fight through things and not get down. Once we learn how to not get down on ourselves we will be the team to beat.”

Jaelynn Presley earned the win after pitching five innings and allowing one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts and one walked batter.

Stephens pitched the final inning and allowed one hit and no runs with a strikeout.
