Portageville routs Scott City 58-0

SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- The once-proud tradition of Scott City High football suffered a humiliating setback Friday night.

Portageville, winless in its last 11 games, trounced the host Rams 58-0.

"Our kids have had this (losing streak) bothering them for a good while," said longtime Portageville coach Jim McKay, who returned this season to try and rebuild the down program.

"I've got a super bunch of kids and this'll be a big boost for us."

The floodgates opened early and often for the Bulldogs as seven turnovers plagued Scott City (0-2).

On the first Ram possession, Portageville (1-1) converted a blocked punt into a 3-yard touchdown run by Paul Recker to go up 6-0.

With the mistake-prone Rams unable to generate any offense, Portageville tailback Dantwain Chillers went on a scoring rampage in the second and third quarters. He scored four consecutive touchdowns during the stretch..

Chillers first score came on a burst through the right side of the line, as he cut back and outraced the Scott City secondary to the end zone on a 46-yard touchdown run to send the Bulldogs up 12-0.

Before the first half ended, Chillers scored on a 5-yard reverse set up by a Ryan Wilson interception and a 1-yard dive following another blocked punt.

With only a minute gone in the second half, Chillers found the end zone again on a 41-yard interception return to put Portageville up by a 34-0 margin.

The Bulldog defense dominated play, also, holding Scott City to just 13 total yards in the first half.

A Ram fumble led to another Bulldog score as Aaron Bidwell dashed 55 yards to paydirt.

Stephen O'Brien, Scott City's coach, said, "They just kicked our butts. Our kids are just going to have to get their heads up and come back. They've got the heart and character to dot it."
