PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- Portageville found its way back to the .500 mark with its 37-13 victory over Scott City on Friday.
"We did pretty well," Portageville's Tevin Walker said. "It was our homecoming and we came out pretty pumped and got the win. We had a few penalties but got through it."
Portageville took advantage of a fumble on Scott City's opening drive to march 64 yards in a seven-play drive, capped by Dominique Walker 6-yard run.
The Rams trailed 13-0 at the intermission.
Bulldogs quarterback Mason Kellams connected with Walker for a 48-yard touchdown strike with less than two minutes left in the first half to give Portageville a 14-point advantage.
Scott City came away with what should have been a huge momentum builder when Austin Atchley intercepted a Kellams pass and returned it for a score to cut the Rams' deficit to 14-7 midway through the third quarter.
But Portageville's Dominique Walker took the ensuing kickoff 87 yards down the left side of the field to the end zone to answer the score.
"As soon as I threw that pick, everybody wasn't down, but they didn't have the same energy as they did," Kellams said. "But when he came back and scored that touchdown, that was huge.
"We had a chance to break apart or come together, and we came together really well."
Walker's touchdown proved to be a big moment in the game, as Portageville went on a 15-6 run to end the game.
Scott City coach Jim May liked his--- team's intensity but said mistakes choked the Rams.
"We turned the ball over five or six times," May said. "That just killed us. We'd move the ball down the field and turn it over, and you can't do that."
Atchley capped the Rams' scoring with a 31-yard reception from Jamie Scholz.
The Bulldogs rolled up 344 yards of total offense while holding the Rams to 169 yards.
