PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- Roy Booker broke loose for 27 points as Portageville handed Cape Central a 56-49 loss on Tuesday.
Cape Central (3-13) scored nearly half its points 24 in the fourth quarter, but found itself with too much ground to overcome. Portageville led 26-19 at halftime and outscored the Tigers 13-6 in the third quarter for a 39-25 lead.
"We're playing better, but just not playing good enough to win," said Cape Central coach Brett Reutzel. "We need to get a third quarter going. They just came out and picked up the intensity a little and we didn't respond."
Matt Cardin led Cape Central with 16 points and Chris Cole added 10.
Sikeston 66, Jackson 53
SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Indians wilted in the third quarter to allow the Bulldogs to take over a tight game.
Jackson held a 31-30 lead at the half, but Sikeston made a 22-9 third quarter advantage stand for the SEMO Conference win.
The Indians' record evened at 9-9 and they fell to 1-2 in the conference.
Seth McDowell led Jackson with 17 points and Brad Hilbert followed with 16.
Bell City 97, Chaffee 63
BELL CITY, Mo. -- The run-and-gun Bell City Cubs ran away from a depleted Chaffee squad.
The Cubs (10-8) controlled the boards and shot well as they forged to a 52-24 lead at the half and coasted to victory.
Bell City's balanced scoring had five players in double digits, led by Eric Henry with 25 points. Brian Phillips (17), Gabe Scherer (16), Jason Rampley (15) and Luke Phillips (10) rounded out the scoring.
Chase Eskew scored 18 points to lead Chaffee, while Andrew Horrell and Perry Rice added 11.
Advance 63, Zalma 40
ZALMA, Mo. -- Advance outscored Zalma in every quarter as it kept the host Bulldogs winless on the season.
Zalma trailed just 31-24 at halftime, but Advance put the game away in the third quarter with a 20-6 scoring advantage.
Jared Sherman hit three 3-pointers in leading Advance with 19 points. Jon French followed with 18 points and Chris Walker had 12.
Chad Wiseman had 13 points for Zalma (0-9).
Woodland 66, Meadow Heights 57
PATTON, Mo. -- Ryan Bandermann and Jared Houchins combined for 40 points as Woodland picked up a win on the road.
Bandermann led Woodland (8-7) with 22 points and Houchins had 18. Alex VanGennip added 12 points for the Cardinals.
Brandon Tallent scored 12 for Meadow Heights and Cody Thomspon had 10.
Woodland took a 14-10 lead into the second quarter, where both team poured in 25 points. Ahead 39-35 at the start of the second half, Woodland held a 27-22 scoring advantage for the remainder of the game.
Charleston 81, Kelly 65
CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Charleston connected on eight 3-pointers as they rang up at least 17 points in each quarter.
Lezcano Dean hit on four of the 3-pointers in finishing with 19 points. Dontay Clark, Jermayne Bradley and Kewain Gant all finished with 10 points.
Michael Romas scored a game-high 24 points for Kelly (8-10) while Josh Glastetter added 11.
Charleston broke out to a 17-8 lead in the first quarter and led 34-29 at halftime. The Bluejays took a 53-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
Oran 80, Oak Ridge 55
ORAN, Mo. -- Sixteen seemed to be the lucky number for Oran as it rolled past Oak Ridge.
Nathan Seyer, Adam Friga and Ryne Wood all scored 16 points, while Patrick Friga added 12 for Oran (10-5).
Clayton Ruesler led Oak Ridge with 11 points.
Oran jumped out to a 22-13 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 38-25 by halftime.
Bernie 76, Leopold 63
BERNIE, Mo. -- Despite 26 points from Ashton James, Leopold (5-9) couldn't survive a 3-point shooting barrage by Bernie.
Bernie, which led 18-11 after the first quarter and 37-29 at halftime, made eight threes.
Daniel Schaab scored 19 points for Leopold.
Scott County Central 82, East Prairie 51
MORLEY, Mo. -- Scott County Central (7-8, 1-2) won easily over East Prairie in a Scott-Mississippi Conference matchup.
The Braves' pressure defense created easy opportunities off East Prairie turnovers.
Scott County's offense featured four double-figure scorers led by Chris Pullen with 20 points. Chris Johnson added 17, Todd Blissett had 15 and Anthony Turner chipped in with 10.
Ryan Poyner led East Prairie with 22 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Cape Central 70, North County 46
Katie Dougherty poured in a career-high 28 points as Cape Central rolled to victory.
Dougherty, a 6-foot-1 senior, had a previous high of 16 points on the season.
"She had by far her best game of the season," said Cape Central coach Mark Ruark. "Our game plan was to really dominate the inside. Katie really stepped up."
Megan McDonald added 14 points for Cape Central (8-6) and Sarah Hyslop tallied 13.
Cape Central held North County's high-scoring Tara Emily to 16 points.
Central took a 15-9 lead in the first quarter and pulled away the remainder of the game. The Lady Tigers led 30-17 at the half and 52-35 after three quarters.
"It was a really good win for us after two really tough losses last week," said Ruark.
The game was the first of four in a five-day span for Central, which plays DeSoto at home tonight.
Central won the JV game 41-23 as Laura Beard scored 16 points.
Kelly 58, Sikeston 41
BENTON, Mo. -- Bridgett Riley scored a game-high 29 points as Kelly moved to 16-1 on the season.
Marissa Essner added 16 points for the Lady Hawks.
Kelly bolted out to a quick lead, outscoring Sikeston 13-5 in the first quarter and 15-2 in the second for a 28-7 halftime lead.
Katrina Amos paced Sikeston with 20 points.

St. Louis DeSmet 141, Cape Central 43
ST. LOUIS -- The Cape Central Tigers were swamped by an outstanding DeSmet swim team.
The Tigers were unable to gain a first-place finish in the dual meet.

Central sweeps double dual
ST. LOUIS -- The improving Cape Central Tigers wrestling team captured both ends of a double-dual meet against Marquette and Rockwood Summit.
With the two wins, the Tigers (4-4-1) have an opportunity to compile a winning regular season record for the first time in seven years.
They can accomplish that with a win over Marion, Ill. in their last meet on Thursday.
The Jackson Indian varsity (8-1) swept its matches against Marquette 60-24 and Rockwood Summit 62-18.
Jackson's junior varsity (9-0) continued the dominance over the St. Louis teams with a 58-18 win over Marquette and a 63-18 win over Rockwood.
