Poplar Bluff wins Notre Dame Inv.

Led by two even-par performances, Poplar Bluff won the 15-team Notre Dame Invitational Monday at Bent Creek Golf Course by eight shots.

Josh Dowdy and Jake Robertson both shot 72 to tie for medalist with Central's Ty Gramling. The Mules top four players, who comprised the team score, all finished within the top five as the Mules finished with a 296 total. Tyler Hillis and James Spurgeon both carded 76 to tie for fifth with Central's Todd Obergoenner.

Central, which had all four of its top players among the top 10 spots, finished second with 304. North County was a distant third with 329. Jackson (338) was fifth, host Notre Dame (375) was 12th, and Perryville (428) placed 14th.

Central's other top scores belonged to Blake Driskell, who placed eighth with a 77, and Tyson Seabaugh, who tied for 10th at 79.

The tournament, which started at noon, was suspended for approximately 30 minutes when rain hit with two holes remaining.

Woodland 23, Delta 3

Travis Benfield hit two home runs and Woodland rolled to a win at home over Delta.

Benfield hit a grand slam in the first inning as Woodland scored 12 runs in the inning. He later hit a two-run homer in the third. Benfield was 3-for-3.

Matt Upchurch (2-0) recorded the win and went 4-for-5 at the plate. Kent McCormick went 3-for-5 with two doubles and Anthony Grojean went 3-for-5 with a double. Seth Gaines, Scott Crader and Jeremy Hutson each had two hits, including a double. Josh Foster also had two hits.
