Central High School's volleyball team lost a marathon match to Poplar Bluff, No. 9 in the SEMO Top 10 rankings, Monday night at home.

"I don't think I've ever been to a high school game that went nine points over like this," Central coach Maile Gannon said.

The Mules won the first game 28-26, but Central came back to win the second game 34-32. Poplar Bluff squeaked out the clinching game 25-23.

Chelsea Oliver had nine kills and 17 digs for Central (5-18-4). Jessica Johnston had seven kills and eight blocks, Tasha Valleroy had 18 assists and 13 digs, and Stephanie Clark had 15 digs. Julie Underwood added seven kills, Amy Bickings had four blocks, and Erika McDowell recorded three aces and 19 digs.

"We should have won the first game," Gannon said. "We were leading most of the game, we just got a little freaked out at times. But I'm pleased with the performance."

Jackson 25-25, Clearwater 16-20

Shay Priester had nine kills to lead Jackson to a home win.

The Indians (21-8-1) got six digs from Linden Hahs, eight assists from Jodie Gipson and three aces from Kate Loos.

Jackson's JV won 25-15, 25-15.

Advance 25-25, Greenville 13-16

Dana Williams had nine kills and two blocks as Advance won on the road.

Alicia Broushuis added seven digs and seven assists for Advance (24-5). Leslie Rainey also had seven assists and Nicole Tropf added three aces.

Advance's JV won 25-14, 25-6.

Sikeston 26-16-25, Bell City 24-25-18

Bell City lost in three games on the road.

Katie Niemczyk had seven kills and 20 digs for the Cubs (17-9). Andreia Wondel led the team in kills with 11 and added nine digs.

Bell City's JV won 15-25, 25-18, 25-19.

Leopold 25-25, St. Vincent 9-20

Leopold made quick work of host St. Vincent.

Allison Prost led the Squaws (5-17-1) with seven service points and two kills.

St. Vincent's JV (14-5-1) won 25-12, 26-24.

Puxico 25-25, Scott City 13-23

Scott City fell to 16-10-2 as it was swept at home by Puxico.

JV FOOTBALL

Central 42, Poplar Bluff 14

Scott Dunaway threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns to lead Central to a home win.

The Tigers (5-0) got touchdown receptions from Ty Craft, Brandon Seabaugh and Scott Brueckner. Miles Palmer added 115 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Central JV Tournament

Central and Notre Dame won easily to advance to the semifinals of the Central JV Tournament.

The Tigers (11-2-2) routed Farmington 10-0. Lance Altenthal had three goals and Tyson Whiteside added two goals and two assists. Jackson Hill, Cody Gaither, Jordan Zaruba, Joey Hodge and Jordan Young scored a goal apiece. Ben Patrick (2), Cole Crist, Scotty Fronkohl and Zaruba added assists for Central.

Notre Dame beat Kennett 8-0 in its quarterfinal game. Notre Dame got goals from Abe Dirnberger (3), Kirk Boeller (2), Jack Wedemeier, Richard Marquart and Jordan Bucheit. Jacob Wengert, Nathan Kolda (2), Andrew Buelow (2) and Tyler LeGrand (2) had assists.

Carbondale (Ill.) beat Jackson 3-1, and Poplar Bluff won 1-0 over Sikeston.--From staff reports
