MIAMI -- Miami Dolphins star Jason Taylor's stepfather was released from jail Wednesday two days after he allegedly pulled a handgun on the defensive end during an argument.

Taylor, 27, wrestled his 42-year-old stepfather, Anthony Taylor, to the floor after he pulled a .22-caliber handgun from an ankle holster during a heated exchange Monday, Davie police said.

The 6-foot-6, 260-pound player was still holding his 5-10, 200-pound stepfather on the ground when officers arrived at the younger Taylor's suburban Fort Lauderdale home, police said.

The arresting officer also said in a report that the FBI was investigating separate allegations by Jason Taylor that his stepfather was trying to extort money from him through the mail.

Anthony Taylor, of Turtle Creek, Penn., was released Wednesday from the Broward County Jail on $35,000 bond. A jail spokeswoman and Harvey Greene, a Dolphin spokesman, both said they did not know who paid the elder Taylor's bond.

Anthony Taylor, who has portrayed his relationship with his stepson in interviews as close and caring, was charged with one count of aggravated assault with a firearm and two counts of domestic violence.

He does not have a listed phone number and it could not be determined Wednesday if he has an attorney.

The FBI would not say whether it is investigating Anthony Taylor, as the local police report said.

"The report speaks for itself," FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela said. "I just can't comment."

Jason Taylor issued no statement on the case and he does not have a listed phone number.

Greene said Taylor would have no comment.

"It's very simple. Jason basically said it's a private matter, so he prefers to keep it that way. He's not commenting on it," Greene said. "He told me he wants to keep it personal."

Taylor, a five-year veteran from Akron, made the AFC Pro Bowl team last season, and in July he signed a six-year, $42 million contract. This season, he leads the Dolphins with 7 1/2 sacks.

The Dolphins are getting ready for a game Saturday at New England for first place in the AFC East.
