The Perryville boys track team won its sixth straight Jefferson County Conference championship Thursday by beating runner-up Herculaneum to the finish line in the meet-ending 1,600-meter relay.

The Pirates' foursome of Jacob Hayden, Josh Hayden, Ryan Regelsperger and Jesse Kueker finished second to Hillsboro in the 1,600 relay. Herculaneum, which had been tied for first in the team standings, finished 9 seconds back in fourth place.

Perryville finished with 150 points, Herculaneum scored 147. Nine teams competed in the meet.

"All of our relays did well," said Pirates coach Lance Bell, whose team had three second-place finishes in those events along with a win in the 3,200 relay. "Josh Hayden, who is coming back from knee surgery from an injury he had in football, won the 110 hurdles in his third meet back. Kyle Bert won the mile in his best time and was second in the 3,200."

The Pirates needed every point to pull out the victory.

Hayden won the 110 hurdles in 16.36 and was third in the 300 hurdles.

Bert's time in the 1,600 was 4:33.15.

"She was by far our best point scorer," Bell said. "She's a good athlete."
