DESOTO -- Perryville's boys basketball team capped an outstanding regular season, clinching a tie for the Jefferson County Large School Conference with an 84-67 victory over co-champ DeSoto.
The Pirates, ranked No. 8 in class 3A, improved to 25-2 on the season, establishing a new school record for wins in a season. DeSoto was ranked No. 4 in Class 4A.
Six-foot-eleven senior Bruce Weinkein led the way for Perryville with 29 points, including 11-for-11 shooting from the free throw line. Overall, the Pirates hit on 27 of 32 attempts.
Scott Kassel added 21 points for Perryville. Matt Meyr also netted 14 points and Steve Tsikhlakis tossed in 13.
Brian Bourbon scored a game-high 35 points for DeSoto.
"That was a real big win going there to the pit and getting a win," said Perryville first-year coach Rick Francis
Perryville built a 23-19 lead in the first quarter and 36-25 at halftime. The Pirates went on to outscore DeSoto 26-18 in the third quarter for a commanding 19-point lead.
"Going into districts you always want to go in with a winning note," said Francis. "We were able to knock down free throws and we rebounded really well."
Perryville also won the JV game 54-36 to finish the season at 17-5.
Scott City 106, Dexter 67
SCOTT CITY -- Scott City's Dustin Cauble had a monster game -- and did it all in just three quarters.
In his team's easy win at home against Dexter Friday, Cauble had a career-high 41 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Cauble was 18 of 23 from the field, and all of his scoring came in the first three quarters.
"Cauble was just unstoppable," said Scott City coach Derek McCord.
Scott City improved to 21-4. The Rams have scored over 100 points in a game five times this season.
Also for the Rams, Tim Lowery had 13 points, Chris Sisk and Chris Inman 12 and Lance Amick 11. Dexter was led by Adam Lambert's 14 points.
Scott City won the JV game 66-65 to move to 16-7. Jason Bickings had 22 points and Luke Sample added 14.
Jackson 58, Caruthersville 37
CARUTHERSVILLE -- Jackson's Justin Keen pumped home 15 points to lead Jackson to a comfortable victory in the Indians final regular season game.
The win ended the Indians' regular season with a 16-8 record. The Indians never trailed outscoring the Tigers in three of four quarters.
Kelly 67, Bell City 64
BELL CITY -- Kelly survived Bell City's upset bid, breaking a fourth-quarter tie for a three-point victory.
Denver Stuckey paced Kelly with 17 points while Jim Hulshof netted 13. Justin Stephens scored 14 points to lead Bell City (6-13) while Nate Will added 13 and Jacob Jenkins and Brandon Stewart each finished with 11.
Bell City held a 35-33 lead at halftime, but the team went tied 50-50 into the fourth quarter. Kelly (13-10) led most of the final period.
"This was like a win for us," said Bell City coach Scott Kruse. "Kelly has been playing really well, and they didn't play bad tonight. We just had a really good game."
Bell City will visit Scott County Central on Tuesday.
Charleston 57, Park Hills 44
CHARLESTON -- Charleston did its final preparations for protecting its No. 1 ranking in Missouri Class 3A, closing its regular season with a victory.
Rashad Oliver scored 19 points for Charleston, which closed its regular season at 23-3. Corey Kent added 13 points.
Charleston's JV also won 71-38.
Charleston opens district play on Thursday.
Delta 59, Leopold 48
LEOPOLD -- Delta improved to 15-10 with its win on the road over Leopold Friday.
Leopold (8-12) led 26-23 at halftime before being outscored 36-22 in the second half.
For Delta, Jeremiah Cook had 26 points and Sammy Below added 15. Matt Beussink had 16 for Leopold.
Oak Ridge 75, Zalma 48
ZALMA -- Oak Ridge led 22-8 after one quarter and cruised to a win on the road Friday.
Oak Ridge improved to 7-13, dropping Zalma to 2-18.
Oak Ridge's Kirt Ruehling led all scorers with 33 points. Josh Welsh added 12 and Matt Preusser and Aric Curry both added 11. For Zalma, Michael Wade had 19 points and Adam Wallace totaled 10.
Richland 48, Woodland 46
MARBLE HILL -- Woodland had the lead with three minutes remaining in its game with Richland, but lost Friday.
Woodland dropped to 16-8.
For the Cardinals, Shawn Massa had 15 points. Tony Herrion led Richland with 20 points.
Scott Central 91, Advance 78
ADVANCE -- Scott County Central improved to 17-6 by beating Advance on the road Friday. The Hornets fell to 14-9.
Five players scored in double figures for Central, led by John Fort's 20 points and Eric Canady's 19. Matt DeJournett had 20 points for Advance and Tommy Tucker added 15.
Girls basketball
Jackson 72, Herculaneum 34
JACKSON -- Jackson's girls closed out their regular season schedule with a easy victory over Herculaneum.
The Lady Indians finished the regular season with a 22-2 record.
Dana Eakins connected on five of Jackson's 10 3-point baskets to finish with 15 points and lead four Lady Indians in double figures. Michele Millham, who was presented with a plaque prior to the game for scoring her 1,000th point Thursday at North County, added 13 points and Jamie Heitz and Mindy Myers each finished with 10.
Kate Gielow accounted for 21 of Herculaneum's points.
Jackson built a 19-3 lead in the first quarter and led 35-9 at halftime.
Also before Friday's game, Jackson coach Ron Cook was presented with a plaque for his 300th win.
