FESTUS -- Though they briefly trailed 7-0, the Pirates amassed 403 yards in 43 carries and sailed to a 42-7 victory Friday night over Festus.
Perryville improved its record to 5-1.
Senior halfback Joel Heuring ran for 148 yards and three touchdowns in 14 attempts. Matt Jenkins, another senior halfback, totaled 123 yards in nine tries and scored on an 18-yard run.
Fullback Andy Haertling rushed four times for 47 yards and a 16-yard score and quarterback Dusty Cattoor, who completed all four passes for 72 yards, added an 18-yard burst for a touchdown.
Perryville led 14-7 after one quarter and 35-7 at the half.
"We ran the option very effectively tonight," said Perryville coach Jerry Tucker. "That's the type of offense that we have.
"Festus is down a little this year, and they were just physically overmatched against us."
East Prairie 27, Chaffee 14
CHAFFEE -- Chaffee's doldrums continued as the Red Devils nearly came back from a 19-0 halftime deficit but fell short.
Chaffee (0-6) made the score 19-14 late in the game and had East Prairie (2-4) deep in its own territory but couldn't make a big play on defense.
The Red Devils' Andy Proffer, who caught four passes for 124 yards, grabbed a 52-yard pass from Matt Graham in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 19-7.
Graham, who completed 8 of 20 attempts for 155 yards, found Proffer again in the fourth quarter on a 19-yard scoring play.
