After starting the season with four consecutive losses, Perryville has picked up two straight wins, the latest a 35-20 triumph over visiting Hillsboro on Friday.
Matt Unterreiner had another big game for the Pirates (2-4), rushing for 261 yards on 24 carries and scoring three touchdowns. Last week against Windsor, he rushed for 166 yards and had five touchdowns.
Andrew Bachmann added 64 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns.
The Pirates gained 343 yards on the ground and had 424 yard of offense. Quarterback Corey Buerck completed nine of 15 passes for 81 yards and one touchdown.
Hillsboro (0-6), which had 338 yards of offense, trailed just 7-6 at halftime, but the Pirates quickly took control in the second half.
BOYS' SOCCER
Central 1, Columbia Hickman 0
Central improved to 15-0 with a home victory.
Aaron Bornstein scored the game's only goal just six minutes in with an assist from Calen Wills. Tony Leuckel recorded the shutout.
"It was a good, hard-fought game," Central coach Tom Doyle said. "Both teams had good opportunities. They missed a wide-open goal, and we hit a couple of posts."
Central's JV (8-2-1) lost 1-0.
Springfield Glendale 2, Notre Dame 1
In a physical game the Bulldogs could not overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit and lost at home.
Glendale took advantage of a defender's slip and a misplay to put Notre Dame in an early hole.
"I thought we played decent for most of the half, but we misplayed a ball and they took advantage," Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn said.
Notre Dame (8-7-1) controlled much of the second half and cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Chris Meyer from Jonathan Market. The Bulldogs could not complete the comeback.
Notre Dame's JV (8-0-3) tied 0-0.
Springfield Kickapoo 2, Jackson 0
Kickapoo scored two first-half goals and played host Jackson to a scoreless standoff in the second half to defeat the Indians (3-12).
SOFTBALL
Class 4, District 1 Tournament
No. 3 Jackson's season came to a close with a 3-2 loss to sixth-seeded Poplar Bluff at Farmington. Jackson fell to 11-4. Poplar Bluff is 10-10.
No. 1 Central will face Farmington, who beat Sikeston 8-2 in the other quarterfinal game, in today's semifinals. Poplar Bluff will face No. 2 Hillsboro in the other semifinal.
The semifinal games are scheduled for 11 a.m. today, with the championship game to follow later today.
Class 3, District 2 Tournament
Notre Dame's bid for another Class 3 district title will start today when it takes on host Windsor. The Owls beat St. Pius 1-0 in a quarterfinal game. In the other quarterfinal Ste. Genevieve beat Perryville in a wild one 11-10. The Bulldogs were scheduled to begin Friday but rain pushed the district semifinal games back a day. The championship game will follow the semifinal games.
VOLLEYBALL
Meadow Heights 19-25-25, Zalma 25-16-13
Meadow Heights came back at home and won in three games.
The Panthers (8-9-4) were led by Jenna Ellis and Chelsea Bollinger who had nine kills apiece.
Meadow Heights' JV won 20-25, 25-21, 25-14.
Eagle Ridge 25-25, Liberty Christian 5-17
Eagle Ridge's junior varsity team won in two games at home.
