Perryville's girls basketball team used a strong opening quarter to defeat Ste. Genevieve in the opening round of the Class 4, District 1 tournament 69-41 Monday at Notre Dame.
Perryville outscored Ste. Genevieve 27-8 in the first quarter. Amber Hacker had 11 of her 17 points and April Lorenz had seven in the opening period.
"I was very pleased with our effort in the first quarter. It was nice to have that balanced scoring," coach Vicki Lohmann said.
Perryville's balance showed in the scoring column. Every player on the team, with the exception of one who was sick, scored.
Lorenz finished with a game-high 20 and Samantha Lankford added 10. Rachel Flieg led Ste. Genevieve with 19 points and Elaine Donze had 13.
Perryville will play second-seeded Dexter Wednesday night in the semifinals.
Kelly 48, Portageville 40
Kelly rallied in the fourth quarter to comeback and beat Portageville at home.
Kelly (18-4) trailed by five points entering the fourth quarter, but scored 23 in the final period to earn the win.
Dana Essner led Kelly with 23 points and Kelly Essner had 10. Portageville was led by Ashley Brown's 23 points.
Delta 60, Oran 16
Delta flexed its state-ranked muscles with a home win.
Delta (22-2) outscored Oran 30-6 in the second half and won easily.
Delta's Rebecca Below scored a game-high 26 and Sara M. Cook added 15.
