Junior guard Krista Miesner scored a game-high 22 points to lead Perryville to a season-opening 64-57 victory over visiting North County on Monday in girls high school basketball action.

Annette Weibrecht added 16 points for the Pirates, while Bethany Steffens had 11 and Amber Hacker had 10.

Perryville trailed by 10 points after the first quarter but rallied for a 32-31 lead by halftime.

nJackson and Notre Dame were among four winning teams Monday night at the Notre Dame JV boys basketball tournament. Jackson defeated Sikeston 49-38, and Notre Dame beat Charleston 43-36. In other first-round action, Poplar Bluff beat Blytheville (Ark.) 47-23, and Farmington topped Central 49-43. Jackson and Notre Dame will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Poplar Bluff will take on Farmington at 8:30 p.m. in the semifinals.

nNotre Dame and Jackson cruised to first-round victories in the Central JV girls basketball tournament Monday night. Notre Dame defeated Poplar Bluff 38-29, and Jackson pounded Chaffee 77-17. Sikeston beat Central 37-28, and Farmington eased by Dexter 58-25. Tournament play will continue tonight.

nDelta and St. Vincent advanced to tonight's championship of the four-team JV girls basketball tournament at Delta with convincing wins Monday night.

Delta's JV team defeated Notre Dame's freshman squad 49-10, while St. Vincent topped Puxico 50-31.

Puxico and Notre Dame will play tonight for third place.

  • Central's ninth grade boys basketball team overcame a 16-point halftime deficit to defeat Sikeston 59-54 on the road. Adrian Cox and Shane Nolen led the Tigers with 13 points apiece.
  • Central's boys eighth grade basketball team beat Sikeston 36-30 in its season opener at Sikeston. Andrew Ratliff led the Tigers with 13 points.
