PERRYVILLE -- The Perrville Pirates made one final tuneup for Wednesday's 3A sectional football action by defeating DeSoto 46-30 Friday night in Class 4A, District 2.

Matt Jenkins scored three touchdowns and rushed for over 170 yards alone in the first quarter as Perryville (9-1) jumped out to a 26-0 lead.

Jenkins finished with four touchdowns and rushed for 272 yards on 14 carries. Teammate Joel Heuring rushed for two touchdowns -- 57 yards and 1 yard -- and finished with 110 yards on nine carries. Perryville rushed for 418 yards as a team.

The Pirates took a 40-7 lead into intermission and let backups take care of the second half against winless De Soto (0-10).

The Dragons outscored the Pirates 23-6 in the second half to close the gap.

Perryville will play North County (9-1) at home at 7 p.m. in sectional play. North County is currently the sixth ranked team in the state.
