The Poplar Bluff Lady Mules volleyball team grabbed its second win in a row on Tuesday as they cruised to the 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-18) sweep of Lesterville.
PB head coach Summer Shipman said the win Tuesday and last week over Kennett (3-1) give the Lady Mules some momentum heading into the first round of the SEMO Conference Volleyball Tournament on Thursday at the Cape Girardeau Sportsplex.
“We’ve made big improvements,” she said.
Back-to-back wins for the first time this season is also a confidence builder for the Lady Mules.
“I think will help our confidence,” she said. “We’ve been playing a lot better and we’ve been covering a lot better. We’ve been working hard on that. We’ve been working on our passes. I feel the part we’re going to have to keep going is knowing we can compete.”
The Lady Mules have six seniors on the roster this season and a big junior class lying in wait for next season.
Shipman said the senior class has been helpful this season but one player has helped the Lady Mules all over the court.
Senior Chloe Cambron leads by example for Poplar Bluff as Shipman said she’s not the loudest on the floor, she still helps her teammates with her attitude.
“She stays really positive and she works hard everyday,” Shipman said. “She’s one that plays all the way around the court.”
Poplar Bluff is scheduled to take on New Madrid County Central at 3 p.m. with the winner moving on to face top-seeded Jackson at 3:45 p.m.
The loser of the match will drop to the consolation round and take on the loser of Dexter and Charleston at 4:30 p.m.
The finals are scheduled for 6 p.m.
