CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — The Poplar Bluff Mules and Lady Mules track teams had a total of nine SEMO North champions and several other athletes finish in the top five at the SEMO Conference track and field meet Saturday at Cape Central High School. CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — The Poplar Bluff Mules and Lady Mules track teams had a total of nine SEMO North champions and several other athletes finish in the top five at the SEMO Conference track and field meet Saturday at Cape Central High School.

On the boys side, Darius won the SEMO Conference title in both the triple jump (45-3 1/4) and high jump (6-8), while Spencer Nunn won the overall SEMO title in the 110-meter hurdles (15.77 seconds) and Kolyn McBride won the SEMO North in the 200 meters (22.27 seconds) and finished second overall in the conference race.

On the girls side, Samantha Dowd won overall conference titles in both the 100 (12.29 seconds) and 200 meters (25.60), while Adrianne Casey’s school-record throw of 132 feet, 3 1/2 inches also won the SEMO Conference title.

Additionally, the 4x100 meter relay team of Koryenna Williams, Dowd, McKinzie Kendle and McKenzie Cassie won a SEMO Conference title with a time of 51.03 seconds, while Makyra Mead won the SEMO North title in the in shot put (34-7 3/4) and placed second overall in the conference race.

Other high finishers on the boys side include McBride taking third in the 100 (11.03), while Nunn took fourth in the 400 (52.90) and fifth in the pole vault (an even 13 feet) and Brandin Dodd finished second in the 300 hurdles (42.80).

The 4x400 relay team took second (3:34.62), while the 4x200 relay team took third (1:32.03) and and 4x800 relay finished fifth (9:03.40). Also, Isaiah Nevel finished second in the high jump (6-4) and Jeridon Young placed fourth in the shot put (43-3 1/4).

Other high finishers on the girls side include second-place finishes by the 4x200 relay team (1:48.41) and Caitlin Paumen in the 400 (1:03.10). Williams took third in both the 100 (12.67) and 200 (26.34), while Kennedy Zgaynor took third in the javelin (115-7 3/4) and the 4x800 relay also took third (11:19.04).

Cassie took fourth in the long jump (16- 3/4), while Casey took fourth in the shot put (33- 3/4) and the 4x400 relay also finished fourth (4:28.36).

BOYS TENNIS

Mules lose to Farmington

The Poplar Bluff Mules boys tennis team had a bit of a rough day on the court Monday as the Mules dropped a 7-2 decision at home to Farmington.

The Mules’ lone wins Monday came in singles play, as No. 2 Tavian Towns defeated Wyatt Bach 8-5 and No. 3 Alejandro Rivetti beat Jackson Bauer 8-4.

Poplar Bluff did come close to a win in doubles play, as Towns and Aiden Castillo lost a 9-8 decision in a tiebreaker to Bauer and Cole Wofford.
