Southeast Missouri State senior Josh Uchtman and junior Jill Schnurbusch were named Ohio Valley Conference indoor field athletes of the week Tuesday.

Uchtman broke his own school indoor shot put record with a first-place distance of 60 feet, 9 1/4 inches over the weekend during the SIU Saluki Open in Carbondale, Ill. His previous top mark was 60-8.

Uchtman leads the OVC in the shot put by seven feet and ranks eighth in the nation.

Schnurbusch, a Notre Dame Regional High School graduate, earned her second first-place finish in three meets this season by winning the pole vault at the Saluki Open.

Schnurbusch, who broke the Southeast women's indoor pole vault record in the Redhawks' opening meet this year, tied the school's second-best all-time distance of 11-11 3/4 inches that she previously held.

The record height for Schnurbusch is 12 feet. She also owns the school's overall pole vault record of 12 2 1/2 set during last year's outdoor season.

Moses honored

College Sports Madness has selected Southeast senior third baseman Trenton Moses as the OVC preseason player of the year. The Advance High School graduate is the reigning OVC player of the year after leading the Redhawks to a 34-22 record in 2011, the third-highest win total in school history.

College Sports Madness is a website that covers college sports.

Moses earned third team Louisville Slugger All-American honors following the 2011 campaign. He is a third team preseason Louisville Slugger All-American this year.

Moses batted .395 with 11 home runs, 14 doubles, a triple, 53 RBIs, 44 runs scored, a .672 slugging percentage and .502 on-base percentage last season.

Moses, a starter since his freshman season, ranked second in the OVC in batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. He was fourth in home runs per game and RBIs per game.

Southeast opens its season Feb. 17 at Dallas Baptist, an NCAA Super Regional qualifier in 2011.
