Southeast Missouri State junior right-hander Dustin Renfrow was on Monday named the Ohio Valley Conference pitcher of the week.

Renfrow, a transfer from Jefferson College in his first season with the Redhawks, was the winning pitcher during Saturday's 3-1 triumph over Cleveland State.

Renfrow earned his first Division I victory by allowing four hits and one unearned run in 7 innings. He struck out six and walked none.

So far this season, Renfrow is 1-0 with a 1.08 earned-run average over 16 innings. He has allowed only 11 hits while striking out 10 and walking four.

Southeast (6-2), off to its best start since 2000, plays at Arkansas State (5-6) tonight. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Redhawks then return home to face St. Louis University at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Friday, Southeast begins a three-game home series with Illinois State.

Softball loses two

The Southeast softball team dropped both of its games Sunday at the St. Louis University Cancer Center Classic.

Southeast (2-4) opened the day with a 6-0 loss to Missouri-Kansas City (1-7) before falling 10-4 to Missouri State (8-10).

Against Missouri-Kansas City, Amber Peterson had two of the Redhawks' six hits.

Elaine Fisher was the losing pitcher. She went all six innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs.

The loss to Missouri State was highlighted by three home runs from a pair of Southeast freshmen.

Alex Ramirez blasted two solo shots for her first collegiate homers, while Stacia Dopudja had a two-run blast for her first collegiate homer.

Lauren Bradley suffered the loss, allowing seven runs and six hits in 1 innings. Missouri State led 10-0 after two innings.

Southeast plays its first home game Friday as Belmont visits the Southeast Softball Complex for a 3 p.m. start.

The Redhawks will also have two home contests both Saturday and Sunday as part of their annual tournament.
