Southeast Missouri State University's volleyball team continued its late-season surge Saturday night.

The Otahkians won their sixth straight match, sweeping visiting Morehead State 30-17, 31-29, 30-27 in front of more than 300 fans at Houck Field House.

Southeast improved to 11-16 overall and 10-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference as the Otahkians remained in second place and mathematically stayed in the running for the OVC title with two matches left.

First-place Morehead State fell to 19-10 overall and 12-2 in league play.

Seniors Suzanne Gundlach and Sarah Frost led the Otahkians' offense with 11 kills apiece. Freshman Jamie Baumstark had 10 kills, while senior Emily Scannell, junior Ashley Smith and freshman Jessica Wilfong all added five kills.

Sophomore Jill Miller led the defensive effort with 15 digs. Scannell had eight digs and Baumstark added seven.

Scannell, the Otahkians' setter, recorded 31 assists. She ranks second all-time at Southeast and in the OVC in assists. Scannell also had two service aces.

Morehead State's Jennifer Kennedy had a match-high 16 kills. Cherelle Lampkins added 11 kills.

Southeast plays its final two regular-season matches on the road, first visiting Murray State on Friday and then Tennessee-Martin on Saturday.

The OVC Tournament will be played Nov. 21-22 on the campus of the regular-season conference champion.
