OTAHKS' REICHERT HURLS NO-HITTER

EVANSVILLE -- Southeast Missouri State University's Sara Reichert, a senior from Belleville, Ill., threw a no-hitter in the second game of a doubleheader on the road Thursday against Evansville.

Southeast swept, winning the opener 7-2 and the nightcap 9-0.

The wins avenged a season-opening 2-0 loss to Evansville.

The Otahkians improved to 13-11 with the victories.

"We're playing better than our record might indicate," said Southeast coach Lana Richmond.

In the nightcap, Reichert struck out two and walked two.

Southeast's big inning came in the fourth; the Otahkians took advantage of four errors by Evansville and scored five runs.

Kendra Williams went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Chris Shetley and Kim Palmer both had two hits.

Southeast totaled 12 hits in the opener. The Otahkians scored three runs in the third inning and two runs in both the fourth and the fifth.

Debbie Schmelz earned the win. She pitched five innings, allowed six hits, walked three and struck out none.

Shetley went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer and an RBI double. Tami Hebert and Leanne Gryncewicz both added two hits.

Southeast hosts Austin Peay for a doubleheader today.

Otahk netters sweep

Southeast Missouri State University's tennis team improved to 2-2 in the OVC with a 7-0 sweep of a short-handed Austin Peay squad Thursday on the Southeast campus.

The Otahkians won two singles matches by default and No. 3 doubles by default in improving to 8-5 on the season.

The Otahkians will visit Tennessee State today.
