Southeast Missouri State University's softball team was hammered 8-0 and 8-1 in a home doubleheader against Southern Illinois Wednesday.
Southeast (11-15) managed just seven hits in the two games, while the Salukis (28-12) got 10 hits in the first game and 11 in the second.
In both games, SIU used big innings to pick up the win.
In the first game, SIU scored five in the sixth and in the second game it scored four in the fifth.
Southeast's Brooke Nett, Renee Enos and Kathryn Cerneka managed single hits in the first game. Nett had two hits in the second game, while Jenny Doehring and Courtney Eklund added one apiece.
Southeast's Renee Mueller suffered the loss in the first game, going five innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and no walks while striking out three.
Doehring went five innings in the second game and gave up seven runs (five earned) on nine hits and no walks.
Carisa Winters pitched a complete game for the win for SIU in the first game, while Katie Kloess got the win in the second game.
Jamie Campbell, Erin Stremsterfer and Marta Viefhaus, the No.s 2, 3 and 4 hitters for SIU each had two hits each in both games.
