LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Southeast's women's volleyball team handed the University of Kentucky its first home loss of the 1999 season Friday night in the Kentucky Conference Challenge.
Southeast, which opened the season with four straight losses, has now reeled off five straight victories.
Southeast swept Kentucky 15-4, 17-15, 15-10 in its opener of the round-robin event.
The Otahkians held Kentucky (5-3) to a .099 hitting percentage for the match as they were able to dig 54 Wildcat attacks. By contrast, Southeast finished with a .269 attack percentage.
Krista Haukap led Southeast's defensive effort with 15 digs while Amy Henken and Jackie Derwort had 10 and 12 digs, respectively. Haukap also played a big part of the offense with 18 kills. Lea Beckemeyer led the Otahkians with 19 kills.
Henken dished out 24 assists.
"it was nice to come into the tournament and beat Kentucky in their home gym," said Southeast coach Cindy Gannon.
Southeast continues tournament play today with an 11 a.m. match against Hofstra and a 5 p.m. contest against Central Michigan.
