CARBONDALE, Ill. -- With Angie Aschoff being named tournment MVP Saturday, Southeast Missouri State University's volleyball team stormed to the title in the Southern Illinois Classic.
The Otahkians, after beating Syracuse Friday night, won two more matches Saturday, defeating host SIU in four games (scores were not available) and rolling past West Virginia 15-5, 15-9, 15-3.
Southeast is now 16-7 on the season. The win over West Virginia gave Otahkian coach Cindy Gannon her 250th career victory. Gannon is 250-129 in her 10th season at Southeast.
Aschoff had 20 kills and 14 digs against West Virginia. Jackie Derwort and Lea Beckemeyer both added 13 kills while Krista Haupak contributed 12. Haukap had a team-high 15 digs. Amy Henken added 51 assists and 11 digs.
The Otahkians will have a big Ohio Valley Conference match Tuesday night, playing host to Austin Peay.
