The Oran girls softball team followed a 17-hit performance in Thursday's Oak Ridge tournament semifinal with a 15-hit effort to win the championship.
"Everyone hit, up and down the batting order," Oran coach Wade Sanders said.
Particularly impressive was the 12-1 victory in the title game against defending tournament champion Scott City. The Rams (9-3) had beaten Oran (8-1) 3-1 earlier this spring.
"Scott City's pitcher, [Emily] Essner, throws hard, and we haven't faced anyone who throws as hard since the first time we played them," Sanders said. "We haven't had any practice at hitting pitching that hard. The girls just found their stroke today. Everybody hit."
Oran built an 8-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings. After Scott City scored one in the bottom of the third, Oran scored more in the top of the fourth and the game ended at five innings.
Jodi Urhahn was 4-for-4 and Courtney Nenninger had three hits for the Eagles in the final.
Hanna Seyer allowed just two hits in improving to 6-1, and Oran committed no errors to Scott City's four.
"The defense was awesome, and Hanna pitched a good game," said Sanders, in his first year coaching the Eagles. "She made them hit a lot of popups and foul balls."
Lauren Schaefer had both hits for Scott City.
"I don't know what happened," Eagles coach Sally O'Brien said. "We played the 12 o'clock game and then we sat around while they played."
Scott City had beaten Saxony Lutheran 8-3 in the semifinal round. Libby Burger picked up the win. Chelsi Bradley had two extra-base hits, including a two-run triple in the four-run third inning.
Oran, meanwhile, topped Woodland 13-3 in the other semifinal. Hanna Seyer allowed no runs over the first three innings and Callie Kielhofner finished the game. Eftink had four hits and Urhahn added three. Oran belted out 17 singles.
Saxony Lutheran (6-4) captured third place with an 11-7 win over Woodland behind three hits from Leah Gerecke.
Scott City and Oran could meet again when Oran hosts a tournament next weekend.
