ORAN, Mo. — The Oran baseball team showed its determination and resilience as it bounced back from a disappointing loss with an impressive performance to secure a dominant win over Saxony Lutheran.
The Eagles (9-3) won 9-1 over the Crusaders (6-4) at Oran High School on Tuesday, April 18.
“I liked how we responded after our loss to Notre Dame,” said Oran coach Joe Bickings. “This was a really good win for us against a good team and good pitcher. [Parker Bryant] wasn’t the sharpest in the first inning when he hit two batters and gave up a hit. But he was able to limit the damage and only give up a run. [Carson Kern] came in in the sixth inning with runners on 1the corners and nobody out and was able to not give up a run. That was a pivotal moment because the score was 5-1 at the time. We did a lot of fundamental things well today to score runs and Gabe Dirnberger hit the ball well today.”
Parker Bryant earned the win after five innings of work. He allowed one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts and two walked batters. Carson Kern threw the final two innings and didn’t give up any runs or hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Gabe Dirnberger finished 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and two scored runs.
Oran hosts Malden (2-11) on Friday, April 21, and travels to Chaffee (14-3) on Monday, April 24.
Saxony Lutheran hosts Caruthersville (5-8) on Friday, April 21, and travels to Meadow Heights (7-4) on Monday, April 24.
