ORAN, Mo. — Not taking any prisoners in its season-opener, Oran pummeled Bloomfield into submission 15-0 on Tuesday, March 19 at Oran High School.
Eagles' (1-0) bats were booming, and Gabe Dirnberger brought the heat on the mound, spinning a 3.1-inning no-hit shutout despite some early baserunners.
“[Dirnberger] did a really good job of pumping strikes,” said Oran coach Joe Bickings. “He helped himself out by getting out of a few jams with some big strikeouts to the heart of Bloomfield order.”
Dirnberger displayed poise under pressure, navigating a leadoff double in the first inning and a bases-loaded jam in the third without surrendering a single run. When needed, he dialed up the heat, striking out six Wildcat (2-3) batters to secure the win.
Oran's offense made sure Dirnberger's effort wouldn't go to waste. Nolan Loper (3-for-4, double, 2 RBIs), Carson Kern (2-for-2, home run, 4 RBIs), and Rolen Heuring (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) led the hit parade.
“It was really nice to start the season out with a win,” Bickings added. “Hitting-wise, we were able to attack pitches in the zone and didn’t chase any outside the zone.”
The Eagles face a challenging week ahead, traveling to Portageville (3-3) on Thursday and Valle Catholic (3-0) on Saturday.
