The Southeast Missouri State cross country teams were both picked to finish in the top third in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll, which is voted on by coaches in the league and was announced Wednesday.
The men and women's teams each received 94 points in the voting, which was good for third on the men's side and fourth on the women's.
Southeast's women's cross country team finished fourth at the 2013 OVC Championships while the men's team finished fifth.
"Looking at the preseason poll and seeing our teams picked in the top third of the conference on both sides is very promising," coach Ryan Lane said in a news release. "It shows we are respected in the league but also leaves room for improvement and we can still prove people wrong."
Eastern Kentucky was picked to win on the men's and women's sides while Belmont was second in both.
On the men's side, Eastern Illinois was fourth (92), Morehead State fifth (84) and SIUE sixth (75). UT-Martin, Murray State, Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech, Jacksonville State and Tennessee State were picked seventh through 12th, respectively.
Eastern Illinois was third (99) on the women's side, Murray State fifth (80) and SIUE sixth (61).
Austin Peay (60), Morehead State (53), Jacksonville State (50), Tennesee Tech (31), UT-Martin (21) and Tennessee State (12) round out the poll.
Southeast opens its season at the Gabby Reuveni Early Bird in St. Louis on Aug. 30.
The Southeast gymnastics team's team grade point average of 3.696 ranked third in the nation for the 2013-14 academic year, the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women announced Wednesday.
Southeast has finished in the top three eight consecutive years. They've had the country's highest GPA five of those, including last year.
Utah's 3.782 GPA was the highest in the nation. Texas Woman's was second with a 3.760 GPA.
