Oak Ridge pitcher Ethan Sachs outdueled Meadow Heights hurler Cody Kennedy in the season-opening baseball game for both schools as the Blue Jays posted a 1-0 road victory Monday.

Sachs allowed a leadoff single in the first inning, but that was the only hit he surrendered all game. He tossed six shutout innings, struck out 13 batters and walked one.

Oak Ridge's Stephen Wright retired the side in order in the seventh to close out the game.

The Blue Jays pushed across their only run in the first inning. With two outs, Sachs walked and Brett Thomas tripled.

Central's Jared Green smashed a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to tie the score after Kennett led the entire ballgame.

But Kennett earned a walkoff win in the bottom half of the seventh when Andy Lack stroked a home run off Tigers reliever Josh Meyer with two outs and the bases empty.

Zach Wilson started the game for the Tigers. He went three innings, giving up three runs, all earned, on five hits and one walk while striking out two batters.

Meyer pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief. He gave up one run and two hits. He struck out two and walked one.

Aaron Horrell got the job done on the mound and in the batter's box to secure Chaffee's first win.

Horrell threw five scoreless innings and went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs for the Red Devils (1-0).

Trevor Cannon, Alex Bavey and Andrew Dooley each added two hits for Chaffee.

Advance's Jacob Bond also had two hits.

Kyle Rollet got the win for the Indians (1-0) and also went 2-for-4 at the plate.

C.J. Pavlouski and Brock French added two hits apiece.

Roth gave up five hits and struck out seven.

Spencer Sander had three of Saxony's 10 hits. Roth added two hits, while Bryant Steffens had three RBIs and Trent Steffens two RBIs.

Whitney Vandeven belted a triple and pitched a complete game as Leopold won its season opener at home.

Vandeven struck out 11, walked three and allowed six hits in seven innings.

Casey Bucher added a double, while Sierra Seiler was 3-for-4 and Mallory James was 2-for-4.

Leopold, which trailed 4-0 entering the bottom of the second, scored in every inning but the first.
