FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- Notre Dame survived a grand slam in the bottom of the seven inning, hanging on for a 13-12 baseball victory over Fredericktown on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs, who took a 12-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, improved to 9-1 despite seeing the Blackcats score nine runs over the final two innings.

Notre Dame's Shane Kistner and Fredericktown's Kyle Tesreau both had two home runs. After hitting a three-run blast in the sixth, Tesreau brought Fredericktown to within 13-12 with a one-out grand slam in the seventh off reliever Blake Urhahn. Tesreau finished 3-for-5 with seven RBIs.

Urhahn, who relieved starter Lee Essner with one out in the seventh, struck out the following two batters to nail down the win.

Kistner began the wild day with a leadoff home run in the first. He added a two-run shot in the second for a 4-0 lead. Kistner finished with two hits and three RBIs as did teammate Kyle Diveley. Timmy Wencewicz went 4-for-5 and Scott Wittenborn added two hits.

The victory for Notre Dame came a day after an exciting 10-9 win over Scott City.

"We're finding ways to win," Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett said. "That's the positive. We were sitting on 12-3 lead and had a chance to finish them off. You have to give them credit. They hit their way back in the game."

Essner (2-0) allowed 13 hits, striking out seven, walking none and hitting four batters.

Josh Skaggs suffered the loss.
