The Notre Dame volleyball team climbed above .500 with a 25-23, 25-19 victory against Leopold on senior night Thursday at Notre Dame. The Notre Dame volleyball team climbed above .500 with a 25-23, 25-19 victory against Leopold on senior night Thursday at Notre Dame.

The Bulldogs ended their regular season 13-12-3, while Leopold finished at 20-5.

"We knew Leopold was going to be a good team coming in," Notre Dame coach Tara Stroup said. "We played better tonight than we have been. Plus it was senior night, and all three seniors played very well."

Ashley Nenninger had 10 kills for Notre Dame, and Meridith Medlin added 15 assists. Allison Toole had six digs and three kills, Kaitlyn Scheeter had five kills and Destiny Dirnberger had three kills.

Jackson 17 25 25 Poplar Bluff 25 18 23

Jackson rallied for a close victory at Poplar Bluff in the Indians' regular-season finale.

The win pushed the Indians record to 22-10. Both teams will be in Class 4 district play next week in Hillsboro, Mo.

For Jackson, Leslie Gordon had eight aces, Jodie Gipson had seven kills, Natalie Koeper had 31 digs, Lucy Hartmann added 28 digs, and Dede Whitlow had 12 service points.

JV -- Jackson (17-3-1) won 19-25, 25-13, 25-17; Freshmen -- Poplar Bluff won 25-10, 25-15 vs. Jackson (5-14-3).

Saxony 25 19 25 Chaffee 13 25 13

Saxony Lutheran topped host Chaffee in three sets.

Tiffany Haertling had 11 assists for the Crusaders (4-21). Nicole Petzoldt had 11 kills and three blocks, Meredith Hoffman had seven kills and three blocks and Stacey Manche added seven kills.

JV -- Saxony Lutheran won 25-10, 25-13

MCSAA tourney

New Salem Christian Academy of Marble Hill posted a 3-0 record on the first day of pool play at the Missouri Christian Schools Athletic Association volleyball state championships in Joplin, Mo.

The Eagles (16-2) swept all three games in two sets. New Salem defeated Liberty of Wright City, Mo., 25-13, 25-10 and St. Louis Christian 25-9, 25-13 before hammering Crescent Lake Christian of Excelsior Springs, Mo., 25-8, 25-13.

In the first game, Sarah Green had five kills, Kelsey Barlow had four kills and Mary Beth Poole had three kills.

Laura Poole had 12 assists in victory over St. Louis Christian, and Sarah Green added 19 service points and four kills. Mary Beth Poole had five kills.

In the final game, Laura Poole had 13 assists, Sarah Green had five kills and Mary Beth Poole added four kills.

Pool play will continue today with the championship match scheduled for Saturday.

OTHER EVENTS

  • East Prairie topped Delta 33-30 in the eighth-grade championship of the junior high girls basketball tournament in Oran.

In the seventh-grade title game, Oran defeated Scott County Central 43-24.
