Cindi Cox scored on an assist from Kristen Boos 10 minutes before the end of the first half as Notre Dame defeated Jackson 1-0 in girls soccer action Thursday at Notre Dame High School.
Notre Dame improved to 10-10-3.
"Jackson has been on a heck of a run and we started out 7-2 and have struggled for a stretch," Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley said. "We're starting to come out of it. We moved the ball well tonight. Cindi Cox was very active. It was nice to see her get the goal with the way she played."
Goalkeeper Katie Palmer recorded the shutout.
Notre Dame's junior varsity, after beating Central 3-1 on Wednesday night, fell to Jackson 3-1 to improve to 8-4-3.
Perryville 8, De Soto 0
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Brooke Winkler netted three goals and assisted on two others as the Lady Pirates (15-2-3) blanked Jefferson County Conference foe De Soto.
Other Perryville scoring came from Stacy Baer with two goals and Brittany Weibrecht, Laura Klaus and Robin Mueller with one each.
Jamie Amberger, Kate Bohnert, Weibrecht and Baer were credited with assists.
Goalie Amanda Nuyt got the shutout.
BASEBALL
CHaffee 11, Jackson 10
CHAFFEE, Mo. -- In a wild, back-and-forth affair, Chaffee battled back several times to pick up the win and improve to 17-2.
Jackson scored at least one run in every inning against the best one-two pitching combination in the area, but the Indians couldn't hold the Red Devils off.
Chaffee scored two in the third, three in the fourth and six in the fifth. Jackson, which outhit the Red Devils 16-13, had the bases loaded when the game ended.
Matt Stroup, who was roughed up a bit in two innings of relief, had one of his best offensive performances of the year. He went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Perry Rice also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Rusty Duncan and Travis Hanback had two hits each.
Michael Birk led Jackson's offense, going 3-for-5 with a double. Seth Harrell, Lance Limbaugh, Ricky Renfroe and Joey Beard had two hits each. Beard also walked twice.
G.P. Glueck was the winning pitcher. He went five innings and gave up eight runs, all earned, on 11 hits and seven walks. He struck out eight.
Stroup pitched two innings and allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five.
Limbaugh suffered the loss in relief of starter Dusty Roberts. He allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits and two walks. He fanned two.
Notre Dame 8, South Pemiscot 3
Timmy Wencewicz pitched five strong innings and provided a key two-run double in a five-run first inning as Notre Dame improved to 15-6.
Wencewicz allowed three runs, all earned, on five hits and three walks. He struck out five.
"Timmy threw very well," Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett said. "His biggest problem has been walks. He only walked one through five innings then walked two in the sixth when he ran out of gas."
Lee Essner threw the last two innings, walking one and allowing no hits while striking out two.
Notre Dame banged out nine hits, but no player had more than one. The Bulldogs had six of their hits in the first inning.
"We're playng better," Graviett said. "We were one hit away form run-ruling them. We didn't make any errors and we got Todd Friend back today so we're ready to take a run at this."
Leopold 9, Marquand 0
LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Three Leopold hurlers combined to shut out Marquand as the Wildcats improved to 7-6.
Paul Hutchings picked up the win, allowing one hit in four innings of work with five strikeouts and one walk.
Daniel Schaab and A. J. Seiler blanked the Tigers over the last three frames.
Leopold's offense was led by Scott VanGennip (3-for-3, five RBIs), Josh Van de Ven (3-for-3, two RBIs) and Schaab (3-for-3, one RBI).
Twin Rivers 8, Advance 5
BROSELEY, Mo. -- The Hornets (7-9) could not overcome a five-run third inning by Twin Rivers.
Down 6-2 in the fifth, Adam Rainey blasted a three-run homer to pull the Hornets within one at 6-5. But they could get no closer as the home team picked up two insurance runs late.
The Hornets' Andy Jenkins picked up the loss. He went the distance, allowing nine hits, while striking out eight and walking one.
Jenkins also led the offense with two of Advance's five-hit total.
GOLF
St. Vincent wins district
ST. JAMES, Mo. -- The St. Vincent golf team returned to state with a 10-shot win over runner-up Viburnum in the Class 1A, District 1 tournament.
St. Vincent, which took second in state last year, posted a team score of 315. Viburnum finsished at 325 and was followed by Thayer (330), Valle Catholic (332), Bloomfield (354), Bernie (387), Van Buren (392), Richland (418) and host Newberg (438).
"I told the kids that if we could shoot around 320, we'd have a good chance to win," said St. Vincent coach Tom Prost.
The top two teams and the top ten individuals not on the qualifying teams advance to the state meet.
Craig Schumer, who finished third overall, led the Indians with a 75 on the 6800-yard, par-72 Ft. Leonard Wood Golf Course. John Paulus (78), Andrew Prost (79) and Mark Gotto (83) rounded out the St. Vincent scoring.
Nick Pyatt of Viburnum was the tournament medalist with a 1-under 71. Jeff Corlew of Richland finished second with a 74.
SOFTBALL
Chaffee 6, Leopold 5
CHAFFEE, Mo. -- The Lady Red Devils, outhit 10-7 by Leopold, bunched their hits in a big six-run second inning and held on for the win.
Leopold jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second, but Chaffee came roaring back to move ahead 6-3.
A two-out, two-run triple by Abby Walter was the key hit with the score knotted at 3-3.
The Lady Wildcats picked up single runs in the fifth and seventh to close the gap.
Chaffee (13-2) got a complete-game outing from Ashley Pepple, who struck out nine and walked two.
Jennifer Vandeven and Pepple paced the Lady Red Devil attack with two hits each.
East Prairie 11, Oak Ridge 1
EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Oak Ridge (1-11), limited to two hits, fell to East Prairie in five innings.
Jenny Hrabik scored the Lady Bluejays' only run.
Laura Glueck took the loss allowing eight hits with two strikeouts and nine walks.
Mindy Ruch and Chelsea Felter had the two Oak Ridge safeties.
TENNIS
Cape Central 8, Farmington 1
The Tigers kept their unblemished record in dual matches intact with the decisive win over Farmington.
Cape Central improved to 15-0. The Tigers make their final district preparations today when they take on Lone Oak, Ky.
The Cape Central JV won 20-0 to improve to 12-1-1.

ST. LOUIS -- Lindsay Kuper collected two individual first-place finishes and swam on a winning relay as Notre Dame (6-5) placed second in a triangular meet.
Kuper won the 200 IM (2:24.33) and 100 freestyle (58.07). She also teamed up with Ali Tyson, Janelle Essner and Sarah Unterreiner to win the 200 freestyle relay.
