PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Goals were hard to come by -- in fact impossible -- when Notre Dame and Perryville squared off Monday in a matchup between two of the area's premier girls' soccer teams.

The squads battled two a scoreless tie. Notre Dame is 9-2-2 and Perryville 13-2-1.

Notre Dame goalkeeper Katie Palmer came up with several sparkling saves while Perryville's Amanda Nuyt was also stellar in the nets.

"I thought we had three or four excellent chances to score but Katie just came up with some unbelievable saves," Perryville coach Stacie Bauwens said. "But it was a good game between two very good teams."

The JV game also wound up 0-0.

Baseball

SIKESTON 11, SCOTT CITY 3

SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Sikeston built a 9-0 lead after three innings and won its eighth straight game.

Lance Rhodes was the winning pitcher. Blake DeWitt paced the Bulldogs (13-2) offensively with three hits, including a double and triple. Sikeston had 10 hits.

Jeremy Glastetter had two of the three hits for the Rams (5-6). Jordan Comer suffered the loss.

Chaffee 5, Charleston 1

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Chase Eskew and Brent Thomason combined on a four-hitter to lead Chaffee (10-6, 4-0 Scott-Mississippi Conference). Eskew worked the first four innings for the win.

James Reischman and Brandon Davis each had two of the Red Devils' nine hits.

Kelly 4, Oran 2

ORAN, Mo. -- Oran out-hit the Hawks 9-6 but errors proved costly.

Oran's Tyler Cookson was 2-for-3 with a third-inning solo home run that tied the game at 1-1, but the Eagles (9-4) gave up a pair of runs on two errors in the fourth inning. Matt Seyer was 2-for-3 and Nathan Seyer 2-for-4.

Garrett Stricker went seven innings for the win.

Woodland 5, Advance 0

ADVANCE, Mo.-- Woodland's Kyle Long fired a one-hitter and struck out 15 for the third time this season. Advance hurler Aaron Cantrell had 11 strikeouts .

Luke Johnson had three hits and recorded his 38th and 39th RBIs of the season for the Cardinals (9-6). Long homered and had two hits, as did Alex VanGennip.

Leopold 18, Meadow Heights 1

PATTON, Mo. -- Josh Van de Ven was the winning pitcher and had three hits as Leopold (7-3) posted its seventh straight victory, a five-inning romp.

Scott VanGennip had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Lucas Horrell had three hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs. Mike Vandeven also doubled twice and had three RBIs while Brandon Bueter added two hits.

Delta 14, Richland 2

ESSEX, Mo. -- Lance Kinder had a huge performance to lead Delta (2-8).

Kinder struck out 10 in six innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs. At the plate, he went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs.

Pat Lingo doubled twice. Thomas Horn added two hits.

Softball

CHAFFEE 11-11, CHARLESTON 2-3

CHAFFEE, Mo.-- Chaffee (11-3) had an easy time in sweeping a doubleheader.

In game one, Shannon Hampton pitched a complete game, striking out six. Ashley Graham had three RBIs and Crystal Morgan two. Kate Pfefferkorn stole three bases. Abby Walter and Mallory Kiefer both had two hits.

Game two was almost a model of the first, with Abby Walter getting the complete game win. Kate Pfefferkorn had three hits and four stolen bases. Hampton had two hits three stolen bases while Morgan added two hits and two RBIs.

Kelly 10, Oran 0

ORAN, Mo. -- Kelly (12-0) continued to roll behind Kelly Essner's five-inning no-hitter.

Allison Johnson led Kelly with two hits.

Delta 16, Richland 0

ESSEX, Mo. -- Sarah Cook pitched a one-hitter, with nine strikeouts, as Delta (5-4-1) romped in five innings.

Cook also went 3-for-3. Rebecca Cook homered and had two hits while Ashley Martin, Ashley Elliott, Tiffany Johnson, Andrea Dohogne and Crystal Burnett all added two hits.

Girls' swimming

MEHLVILLE 109, NOTRE DAME 70

ST. LOUIS -- Lindsay Kuper and Janelle Essner both won two individual events and swam on the victorious 400 freestyle relay team for Notre Dame (3-10).

Kuper captured the 500 freestyle and 200 individual medley. Essner won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

Boys' tennis

CENTRAL 9, POPLAR BLUFF 0

Central improved to 9-3 with a win over short-handed Poplar Bluff.

The Mules' top three players were absent due to the destruction of their families' homes by a tornado last week.

Central's JV (9-1) won 4-0.

Track & Field

NOTRE DAME SWEEPS

Notre Dame's boys and girls both handily won a home triangular meet. The boys scored 107 points to rout Charleston (37) and Egyptian (36) while the girls had 122 points to trounce Charleston (42) and Egyptian (7).

Ashley Millham won the long, high and triple jump events, setting school records in the long and high jumps for the first-year program.

Lauren Beussink and Ryan Roggow each took first in the same two events, the 800-meters and 1600-meters. Samantha Foster also was a double winner, in the shot put and discus.
