Notre Dame left little doubt it would be playing for the championship game of the Missouri Class 1A-3A, District 1 Tournament by soundly defeating Lutheran South 4-0 in soccer action Saturday at the old Notre Dame High School field.

Notre Dame, seeded third, completed a decisive day of soccer as top-seeded St. Pius thumped No. 4 Windsor 5-0.

Notre Dame (16-4-4) and Windsor will meet for the title Tuesday at 3 p.m.

The Bulldogs built a 3-0 halftime lead in disposing of No. 2 seed Lutheran South.

Zach Miller opened the scoring eight minutes into the game off a pass from Oliver Sanders. Jason Garner then scored the first of his two goals for a 2-0 lead. Rob Cuba upped the advantage to 3-0 when he headed in a free kick from Wesley Steele.

Garner completed the scoring in the second half on another unassisted goal.

Colin Vandergraaf recorded the shutout in goal.

"Lutheran South had a really good record coming in," said Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn. "I don't think they played the schedule we played. They didn't look real sharp today."

MEXICO -- The Indians coasted, playing the entire roster in a non-conference, non-district game Saturday afternoon.

St. Vincent (9-0, 1-0 in Class 1A District 1) returns to district play Friday at Hayti (0-8). The Indians already have wrapped up the district championship.

Pat Brown scored the Indians' first two touchdowns, on runs of 5 and 4 yards. Dusty Cattoor scored on a 31-yard pass from Joey Ponder, and Jeremy Best scored on a 5-yard run in the second quarter, giving St. Vincent a 30-0 lead at the half.

Jonathan Paulas threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Brown in the third quarter, stretching the lead to 36-0.

Missouri Military scored with 47 seconds left in the game.

"We got experience of making a long trip and coming out prepared to play," St. Vincent coach Paul Sauer said. "And we got a chance to let the younger kids play against varsity pressure."

Perryville 32, Hillsboro 0

HILLSBORO -- Matt Jenkins ran for three touchdowns and 181 yards as Perryville claimed the Class 4A, District 2 title Friday with a surprisingly easy victory over Hillsboro.

Hillsboro entered the district showdown ranked No. 2 in the state with an 8-0 record. Perryville was not far behind with a 7-1 mark. Both teams left Friday night's game with 8-1 records, but the Pirates will be advancing to the state playoffs after improving to 2-0 in district play.

Perryville coach Jerry Tucker hopes his unranked Pirates gained a little respect with the win.

"I hope we will be (respected) now," said Tucker. "Beating the No. 2 team in the state and winning the district all in one is very important."

Jenkins scored the only points Perryville would need on an 22-yard TD run with 2:37 left in the first quarter. He also provided the only points of the second half with touchdown runs of 47 and 6 yards. He picked up his 181 yards on 16 carries.

Quarterback Derek Cattor, who had 52 yards on nine carries, provided Perryville's other two touchdowns, both in the second quarter. Cattor scored on a 1-yard run at the 10:24 mark and on a 27-yard run with 6:20 left in the half.

Perryville led 19-0 at halftime.

Tucker credited his defense for demoralizing Hillsboro. On three occasions the Pirate defense stopped the Hawks on fourth-down plays.

Josh Boxdorfer led the defense with nine solo tackles while Andy Haertling had eight. Wade Weibrecht intercepted a pass.
