The Notre Dame girls volleyball team was pushed to three games by host Central on Tuesday night but rallied for a 22-25, 25-19, 25-19 victory.

"It was probably one of our best matches," Central coach Malle Gannon said. "It's a big step for us."

Meridith Medlin led the Bulldogs (10-8-3) with eight kills and 16 assists. Ashley Nenninger had five kills and three blocks for Notre Dame, Kaitlyn Scheeter had six kills, Allison Toole had six digs and Destiny Dirnberger had five assists.

For Central (6-14-1), Wendi Zickfield had 10 kills and three blocks, Ashton Gerlach had 15 digs, and Kristin Shirrell had 19 assists. Laura Burdick and Melissa Espinoza added four kills each.

JV -- Notre Dame won 25-22, 25-15.

Leopold 25 25 Saxony 8 8

Leopold posted a victory at home to improve to 15-4.

Erin Woodfin had four kills, Cassi Jansen had six digs and Cassie Seiler had six assists.

For Saxony Lutheran, Stacey Manche had a kill and nine digs. Meredith Hoffman and Alexandra Bothmann each had two kills and a block.

The Crusaders, who fell to 2-19, were coming off a second-place finish in their pool at the Scott City Tournament.

JV -- Leopold won 25-7, 25-11.

Jackson 25 25 NMCC 19 16

Amanda Peiffer and Shay Priester each had six kills in a home victory against New Madrid County Central.

Natalie Koeper added 19 digs and Lucy Hartmann 12 digs for the Indians (19-10).

JV -- Jackson won 25-9, 25-6.

St. Vincent 25 25 Windsor 17 23

St. Vincent posted its 20th victory by beating visiting Windsor.

Kelsey Kutz had six kills and eight digs for the Squaws (20-9-2), while Brooke Hayden added five kills and six digs. Lisa Abbott had eight digs, Brooke Brown had three kills and seven digs, and Lacey Siegmund had 10 assists.

JV -- St. Vincent (19-4-4) won 25-13, 25-20.

Festus 25 25 Perryville 12 13

Perryville fell to 4-5 in the Jefferson County Conference with a road loss.

JV -- Perryville won 17-25, 25-17, 25-23.

Stoddard Co. Tournament

Top-seeded Bell City swept through Richland 25-9, 25-5 in its first-round match at the Stoddard County Tournament in Bernie.

Emilie Stephens had six kills and four digs for the Cubs, while Jenny Lathum added five kills, and Rachel Spears had four kills.

Bell City (22-3-1) plays host Bernie on Thursday night in the semifinals.

Advance also moved to the semifinals with a 21-25, 25-20, 25-19 win over Bloomfield. Angela Broshuis had 12 kills and seven assists for the Hornets (13-12-2). Stephania Jordan added eight digs. Tori Gilliland had four aces.

Advance will play Dexter on Thursday.

JV -- Bell City beat Advance 13-25, 28-26, 27-25.

BOYS SOCCER Sikeston 3, Jackson 1

Jackson fell below .500 to 6-7-2 with a home loss. Spencer McCormack scored on a corner from Brian Davidson for Jackson's lone goal.

JV -- Jackson won 3-0.

OTHER EVENTS

  • The Central Junior High girls basketball team opened its season with a 35-31 victory against Dexter. Sadie Pittman scored 13 points for the Tigers.

In the "B" team game, Dexter won 27-12.
