JACKSON 90, NMCC 13

JACKSON, Mo. -- The Lady Indians (6-5) ran roughshod over New Madrid County Central.

Five Jackson players reached double-figure scoring: Ashley Bartels (15), Jessica Venable (14), Jenna Leet 13, Alisha Burns (12) and Kristen Howard (10).

SCOTT-MISS TOURNAMENT

MORLEY, Mo. -- Fourth-seed Scott City (5-5) hung on to defeat fifth-seed Oran 47-44 in first-round action.

Two clutch free throws by Audrey Heisserer with eight seconds left clinched the win for the Lady Rams. Scott City sophomore Loren Groves had 21 points and 16 rebounds. Maria Eftink led Oran with 24 points.

No. 2 Kelly (9-2) pushed No. 7 Chaffee out of the single-elimination tournament with a 61-39 win. Bridgett Riley led Kelly with 18 points. Jennifer Vandeven led Chaffee with 23.

Delta (8-4), the third seed, cooled off host Scott County Central 62-52 to advance. Rebecca Below topped Delta with 25 points and Rebecca Cook added 18. Scott County's Jenny Hoots had 22.

Boys basketball

PERRYVILLE 66, CHESTER 57

CHESTER, Ill. -- Perryville (8-3) came to life in the second half in the Chester Tournament.

Trailing 26-20 at the half, the Pirates outscored Chester 46-31 in the final half of play. Perryville sank 13 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Andrew Meyr's 21 points led Perryville in the opening round of the five-team round-robin event.

Freshmen basketball

CAPE CENTRAL 50, NMCC 48

Central's freshmen (9-1) came from behind in the fourth quarter. Tyrone Reese, Brandon Twiggs and Lavell Simpson shared scoring honors with 11 apiece.

Reese had seven of his 11 in the final period.
