ST. LOUIS -- Notre Dame of St. Louis used a home run and the stellar pitching of freshman phenom Sarah Dooley to edge Cape Notre Dame 1-0 Saturday in high school softball action.
Lindsay Reinagel was the hard-luck loser for Cape Notre Dame, giving up eight hits, including a fifth-inning solo home run. Reinagel struck out two and walked one.
Cape Notre Dame fell to 20-3.
Dooley, who was being filmed at the game for a piece by Fox Sports Midwest, allowed three hits, struck out 11 and walked no one.
"She can bring it," said Lady Bulldog coach Chris Janet. "That's as hard as I've ever seen anyone bring it."
In her first high school game earlier this season, Dooley struck out 23 Jackson High School batters in a 14-inning contest.
On Saturday, Tracie Kluesner, Mika Williamson and Ramona Blankenship accounted for Notre Dame's hits.
CAPE CENTRAL 12, SECKMAN 0
ST. LOUIS -- The Lady Tigers pulled back to .500 with the five-inning rout of Seckman.
Holly Schurbusch picked up the victory as she allowed four hits with one strikeout and no walks.
Cape Central coach Amy Blattel said, "Holly did a fantastic job against a good hitting team and our defense was solid again."
Cape Central's offense clicked for 13 hits with Samantha Elliott (3-for-4 with 2 RBI), Megan Kistner (3-for-3), Laura Beard (2-for-3) and Trish Klipfel (2-for-3) doing most of the damage.
St. Vincent Tournament
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Delta, a Class 1A school, captured second place in a four-team tournament against competition from larger schools, St. Vincent (2A), St. Pius (3A) and Farmington (4A).
Delta (9-8) lost to St. Pius 10-0 in its first game of the round-robin tournament, then came back to defeat St. Vincent 10-3 and Farmington 7-5 to earn another shot at St. Pius, which was undefeated in pool play, in the championship round.
St. Pius prevailed, again, 11-2 over the Lady Bobcats to claim the tournament title.
Delta scored nine runs in the first inning of the St. Vincent game, the key hit an inside-the-park grand slam from winning pitcher Sarah Cook.
The Lady Bobcats staged a last-inning comeback to score three runs and overtake Farmington, which held a 5-4 lead. Tiffany Johnson's sacrifice fly brought home the tying run and Alexis Nussbaum's RBI single plated the winning run.
Cross Country
Hazelwood East Invitational
ST. LOUIS -- Cape Central's girls concluded a strong week by finishing second in the 10-team, big-school Hazelwood East Invitational.
After winning the small-school Anna-Jonesboro Invitational earlier in the week, Cape Central again had all seven of its runners medal. The sister tandem of Kim and Jennifer Pancoast led the way. Kim finished fifth, completing the 3.1-mile course in 20 minutes, 12 seconds, while Jennifer was 12th in 20:41. Also medaling were Rachel Sprigg (17th, 21:15), Whitney Pingel (19th, 21:27), Cassie Kipper (21st, 21:28), Holly Shaffer (22nd, 21:37) and Mallory Wilson (29th, 22:27).
The Lady Tigers finished with 74 points, 16 behind front-runner Parkway South.
Parkway South also won the boys' race, totaling just 25 points. Cape Central placed fifth with 108.
The top five Tigers all medaled: Josh Revelle (11th, 17:27), Jake Knepp (13th, 17:29), Mike Gerber (21st, 17:56), Trevor Duncan (28th, 18:14) and Alex Schneider (35th, 18:24).

Parkway West Invitational
ST. LOUIS -- Jackson runners competed, on a hilly 3.1-mile course, in the 16-team Parkway West Invitational on Saturday.
The Indians' varsity boys, minus its top two performers, finished 12th, while the girls varsity took fifth-place. The freshman/sophomore girls placed third and the freshman boys garnered a fourth-place.
Jackson was without the services of Joe Golightly, out with an ankle sprain, and Josh Minson who was unable to compete due to an ear infection.
Freshman T. J. Humphrey was a bright spot for the Indians with a surprising 22nd-place finish (17:41) -- the top 25 medaled -- in the varsity boys division.

Jackson doubles tourney
JACKSON, Mo. -- The third-annual Jackson Doubles Tournament was held at the Jackson City Tennis Courts on Saturday.
Jackson hosted Dexter, Poplar Bluff and Fredericktown in the doubles-only event, which was divided into five flights.
The Lady Indians' No. 1 team of Nicole Poythress and Katie Domian captured the first flight, while the No. 2 team of Carly Vogelsang and Kelly Mitchell took flight two. Teams from Poplar Bluff were winners in the other three flights..

LADUE, Mo. -- The Bulldogs (11-2-2) knocked in three first-half goals in the win over Westminister.
Adam Prasanphanich scored twice on assists from Tyler Cuba and Dustin Haupt. Cuba also netted a goal off an assist from Scott Wittenborn and Timmy Wencewicz scored off a Josh Essner pass.
Notre Dame's swarming defense held Westminister to only three shots. Goalie Travis Siebert recorded his eighth shutout of the season.
BELLEVILLE WEST 1, JACKSON 0
BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- Belleville scored the only goal of the match midway in the first half and held on for the win.
The Indians (8-7) had several good scoring opportunities, but were unable to convert.
Jackson's JV team played Belleville to a 1-1 tie. Tyler Beussink accounted for the Indian goal.

Rosary Tournament
ST. LOUIS -- St. Vincent was treated rudely by host Rosary at the five-team Rosary High School Tournament.
The Squaws managed to take second place with wins over Ritenour 15-12, 13-15, 15-12, Hazelwood East 15-9, 15-7 and Whitfield 15-13, 15-9.
However, St. Vincent dropped two matches to Rosary, the eventual champion, 15-11, 15-8 and 15-2, 15-6.
