Notre Dame trailed by 13 at halftime and could never completely recover in a 61-50 loss to Poplar Bluff in the boys' basketball championship of the Farmington Tournament on Saturday.

Travis Siebert scored 15 points and Wayne Essner 10 for Notre Dame.

In the third-place game, Jackson bounced back to beat Eureka 56-40. The Indians (2-1) busted the game open with a 23-point fourth quarter.

Tyler Boyd hit four of Jackson's seven three-pointers and finished with 19 points. Jeff Beck and Tyler McNeely each had 13 points.

In the consolation final, Central cruised to a 72-44 win over Farmington.Central (2-1) forced almost 20 turnovers and shot 14-for-18 from the free- throw line.

Oran Tournament

Top-seeded Twin Rivers held off No. 3 Oran to win the Oran Invitational 58-51.

Oran, down 26-14 at halftime, outscored Twin Rivers 25-19 in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to five. Twin Rivers (3-0) went 19-of-32 from the free-throw line to seal the win.

Robbie Moore's 22 points led Twin Rivers. Nathan Seyer scored 17 and Ryne Wood 14 for Oran (2-1).

No. 2 Bell City (2-1) defeated No. 4 Kelly 75-53 for third place. Eric Henry scored 34 points and Dominitrix Johnson had 29 for Bell City, which outscored Kelly 21-3 in the second quarter. Major Burger had 15 points and Lance Scheffer 10 for Kelly (1-2).

No. 5 Gideon (2-2) defeated No. 7 Scott County Central 66-56 for the consolation title. Anthony Pullen had 16 points and Anthony Turner 12 for the Braves (1-2).

Woodland Tournament

Advance hit 10 three-pointers and cruised to a 67-52 victory over host Woodland in the championship game of the Woodland Tournament.

Jared Ritter led Advance with 23 points. Jason Bahr had 19 and Zach Hudson 18. Alex VanGennip led Woodland with 15.

Bloomfield took third place, using a late comeback to overtake Leopold 51-43. Tim Perry led a deep Bloomfield squad with 23 and Kevin Holsom led Leopold with 12.

Joey Bell scored 39 points to help Meadow Heights win a 99-90 shootout against Zalma in the consolation game.

Meadow Heights (3-1) had six players in double figures and Zalma had five as the teams combined for 77 field goals.

Terry Wagner added 24 points and six three-pointers for Meadow Heights. Curt Wiseman led Zalma with 31.

Eagle Ridge is fourth

Eagle Ridge placed fourth in the Christian Outreach School/Jefferson College Tournament after dropping two games.

Eagle Ridge (2-3) lost its first game 45-41 to Word of Outreach of Little Rock, Ark., and then dropped the third-place game 61-20 to Kansas City East Christian. Andrew Mellies led the way with 21 points against Word of Outreach.

New Salem wins twice

New Salem Baptist bounced back with two wins at the Christian Outreach School/Jefferson College Tournament.

New Salem was led by David Green in both games. He scored 29 points combined. New Salem beath Edgemont Christian of Fairview Heights (Ill.) in the first game 64-19 and beat host Christian Outreach in their final game 40-19.

Girls basketball

FARMINGTON TOURNAMENT

St. Joseph's Academy topped Jackson 51-40 in the final of the Farmington Tournament. Jackson (2-1) was led by Jenna Leet with 19 points.

Central improved to 2-1 with a 67-57 win over Notre Dame in the consolation game. Alex Wieser led the Tigers (2-1) with 34 points. Megan McDonald had 12 points and eight assists.

For Notre Dame (1-2) Ashley Millham led with 24 points. Sommer McCauley added 14.

St. Vincent 35, St. Pius 33 (OT)

St. Vincent slipped past St. Pius to take second place in the Valle Tournament.

Ashley Richardet led St. Vincent (2-2) with 11 points.

Eagle Ridge falls

Eagle Ridge dropped two games in the Christian Outreach School/Jefferson College Tournament to finish fourth.

The Eagle were no match for St. Charles Christian A team, falling 60-13 in the semifinal game. In the third-place game the Eagles fell to St. Charles Christian's B team 32-31. Rachel Carbaugh led the way for the Eagles with 13 points. Cara Ervin added 11.

Boys' swimming

NOTRE DAME TAKES THIRD

Notre Dame finished third out of 12 teams in the University City Relays.

The Bulldogs finished behind CBC and Ft. Zumwalt West. Notre Dame's highlight came in the 400 free relay team, which qualified for the state tournament.

The team of Jameson Kuper, Mark Lester, John Fisher and Jordan Kuper took first in a time of 3:35:73. The Bulldogs also got a first place performance from their 900 progression relay team of Jordan and Jameson Kuper and Josh Lester in a time of 9:36:33.

Notre Dame picked up a second place finish in the 300 breast stroke relay with a time of 3:34:73. John Stoverink, Stephen Hine and Jameson Kuper made up the breast stroke relay team. Fisher, Mark Lester and Jordan Kuper finished second in the 300 fly relay with a time of 3:07:21.

Notre Dame's other top performance came in the 400 medley. Chad McCormick, Drew Boyd, John Stoverink and Joe Graves finished in 4:36:19, good enough for second.

Wrestling

Central finished second in its pool at the Fox Tournament in Arnold, Mo.

The tournament had 10 teams split into two pools of five. Belleville (Ill.) East finished ahead of Central in its pool. Jackson was fourth in the other pool, won by Fox.

For Central, Trevor Duncan (160 pounds) won his class. Third-place finishers were Matt Welker (119), Jonathan Poston (13), Brandon Hinkle (145) and Corey Huskey (152).

For Jackson, Brock Howard (125) and Kramer Rampley (145) won their classes. Ben McMillan (103), Cody Rouse (140), Matt Kahle (189) and Charles Doerge (heavyweight) were third. Finishing fifth were Ben Wachter (135) and Greg Ludwig (152).
